Today looks lovely on Mt. Hood, with clearing skies, warming temperatures, and decreasing wind. With the low sun angle, the snow should hold as packed powder today on all but the steepest sun-facing slopes. Yay! The freezing level will be around 9000’, with NW wind at 20-25 early, backing off to NW 15-20 by 4pm.
Saturday brings more sunshine, with 5000’ temps well into the 40’s and the freezing level at 9000’ early, rising to 10000’ in the afternoon. The wind will be light in the morning, picking up to SW 15-20 by 1pm and SW 30-35 by 10pm with clouds moving in.
There’s a chance of a shot of rain or snow or both on Sunday night. It looks like any precip will start out as rain, switching quickly to snow, for 1-2” of new. As the front swings through overnight, the freezing level drops from 10000’ to 5500’ by 1am, dropping to 3000’ by 4am and 1500’ by 7am. The wind could be a bit annoying on Sunday morning: We’ll have NW at 30-40+ at 4am, going to NW 35-45+ at 7am and the dropping to NNW 20-30 by 1pm and N 10-15 by 4pm. It’s going to be cloudy early, with flurries, clearing late in the day.
Monday looks dry, sunny and warm. Next chance for snow is Tuesday night into Wednesday.
For slopeside entertainment this weekend, Santa will be at Skibowl on Saturday, there’s a rail jam at Meadows on Saturday, and the NW Demo Tour will be at Meadows on Sunday. Also this weekend, Heather Herbeck is holding a “Pray for Precip” party somewhere, location TBD. If you can’t be there for the party, be there in spirit, because we need some rain or snow or … something!
Have an awesome day today!
