There’s one small problem with sleeping in: Weather models refresh sometime around 7:45, so if I haven’t loaded the models into my browser by then, I have to wait quite a while before I can write the forecast. Tough decision: set an alarm on my day off or post the forecast late. Actually, that’s an easy decision!
The lack of snowflakes in the Mt. Hood forecast isn’t helping my motivation to write the forecast. It’s much more fun to throw out big snowfall and wind numbers, rather than saying “sun, sun, sun.”
That said, we have snowflakes in the forecast in the next 24 hours. It will be partly cloudy to cloudy until 7pm, when snowflakes will start falling on Mt. Hood. The snow level will be at the surface in the Gorge, where 1-2” of snow will fall by 2pm Thursday. The snow level will be at 1000’ elsewhere. Mt. Hood will see 2” of snow tonight. Winds today will be SW 15-20 all day.
We’ll see snow flurries alternating with sunbreaks Thursday. The snow level will be around 1000’. Total accumulation will be around 2”. Mt. Hood wind will be W 20-25 early, going to NW 25-35 in the afternoon as the sky clears.
We’ll see a return to sunshine on Friday, with another inversion developing. The freezing level will be around 6000’ early, rising to 8500’ by 10am and 10000’ by 7pm. The wind will be N 15-20 early, going to NW 20-25 midday and decreasing to NW 10-20 late.
The weekend forecast brings a weak system in Saturday afternoon for an inch or so of snow, with sunshine on Sunday. The long term models show a weak system hitting in the middle of next week. Other than that, sun.
Have an awesome day today!
