Some hope is on the horizon. All the models are starting to converge on this ever-so-annoying (other than the beautiful sunshine) blocking ridge breaking down sometime around the middle of next week.
However, today looks sunny. The freezing level will be 8500’ early, rising to 10,000’ in the afternoon. Winds will be E 5-10, going to light and variable late.
Friday looks sunny, with the freezing level around 10000’ all day and all evening. Winds will be NE 5-10, going to SW 5-10.
For the lunar eclipse early Saturday morning, we should have clear skies. Clouds will move in midday. The freezing level will be 8500’ early, dropping to the surface by 4pm as an incoming system clears out the inversion. Winds will be SW 10-20 early, rising to SW 20-30 by 4pm and going to NW 25-35 by 7pm.
Our best chance for snow is Saturday night into Sunday morning, when we may (if we’re lucky) see up to 2”, but most likely 1” of new snow with the snow level at the surface in the Gorge. It will be cloudy on Sunday morning, becoming clear late in the afternoon. Winds will be WNW 30-40 early, swinging around to NE 20-25 by 4pm.
If the long-term models hold, we should see a solid snow system slam into Mt. Hood sometime during the day Tuesday. Whew. Finally!
For you windsurfers and kiters, it’s freezing out there, but it’s blowing in the upper teens at Stevenson and mid-twenties at Rooster. Tomorrow looks windier, with 25-28 at Stevenson and 30+ at Rooster.
Best outdoor activity this week? Dimwits with Bright Light at the Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB trail. 6:15pm Friday. Bring hot dogs, a stick, and s’more fixings.
