Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Not much to talk about today, but you’re all probably still talking about yesterday if you made it to the Rufus area. I did not, but it sounds like it was awesome! Next chance for something similar is next Monday, when I won’t make it to Rufus again, but you should! Between now and then….

Wednesday starts light and variable with pressures of 30.27/30.23/30.22 for gradients of 0.04 and 0.01. Models equalize temps across the Cascades this afternoon, and that shuts the wind down. Expect calm conditions, or even E 5-10 near Stevenson, for the afternoon. River flow over the last 24 hours was 89-132kcfs, river temp is 69.44F, and high temp forecast is 78F for Hood River.
Hot weather sets up in southern Oregon and the Willamette Valley and even the coast on Thursday. This turns the wind offshore. You’ll find 20mph near Stevenson and Iwash (Rooster) Rock with 15-20 at Viento for a few hours in the morning. Early afternoon brings the inevitable decrease in east wind; it drops to 15mph at Iwash Rock and 10mph at Stevenson and Viento. Wind to the east of Viento will be calm or light all day. High temp: 86F for Hood River.
Writing the complete forecast takes me 1-2 hours a day. If it saves you time, gas money, or helps you plan your life, please consider contributing.
Friday looks hotter and less windy. Easterlies peak at 15mph at Stevenson and Iwash in the morning and quickly die off. By early afternoon, Iwash turns light westerly, and Stevenson will be down to 10mph. Viento stays at 15mph or less in the morning and fades harder and faster than the other spots. By mid-afternoon, the Gorge should be glassy everywhere. High temp: 91F for Hood River.

Extended: Fun stuff in the extended! Heat continues on Saturday for light easterlies. The heat low shifts inland on Sunday, and a low migrates northward from California. This brings potential for wind (20-25mph), but it also brings a decent chance of thunderstorms. Get it before things destabilize for best results! On Monday, cool air on the west side combines with very hot air on the east side for a big west wind day. Models are about 90% in on this, and some of them have it truly nuking. Tuesday’s wind strength looks more uncertain. Beyond that, models bring back hot weather and either shut down the wind or turn it easterly. Remember, I’ll be gone Saturday through next Thursday. That should make it windy for you. Have a great day today!
