Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It sure felt like January on the mountain on Saturday: windy, snowy, cold, and packed powder on the ground. Sunday looks quite similar. After that, we enter a slow warming trend. Don’t get too comfy with the warmth and the sunshine. Next weekend looks like winter again. For Sunday night, expect 2-3” of snow is the snow level at 3000′ in the evening and 2000′ after midnight. Wind will be W 30 in the evening and W 20 overnight. That’ll pile up some snow on leeward slopes.

Expect excellent packed powder groom and shallow powder on Sunday. The sky will be partly cloudy, and intermittent snow flurries are likely. Overnight, the sky turns partly cloudy. Just a trace of snow is forecast for the 24 hour period with the snow level at 2000′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. Wind: W 20 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon, and SW 10-15 overnight.

Monday will be partly cloudy. It’ll add some light snow early afternoon or maybe in the evening. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 3000′ midday, 4500′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ after midnight. Just a trace of snow is forecast. Wind: SW 10-15 early, WSW 15 midday, W 20 in the evening, and W 30 after midnight.

Tuesday starts with clouds to 6500′ or so. That sometimes results in snow flurries, and it sometimes results in freezing drizzle. Above 6500′: sunshine. Just a trace of precip is forecast with the snow level at 4000′ all day and all night. Wind: W 30 in the morning, W 20 in the afternoon, and variable to 5 overnight. Extended: Wednesday and Thursday looks sunny and warmer. Sometime late Thursday or Friday daytime, a cold front arrives from the NW and sends much colder weather and some snow (how much is uncertain) this way. As I said earlier, winter will return with 850mb temps several degrees below 0C. Enjoy the wintry conditions on Sunday!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Not so much happening between Sunday and the end of next week, but there might be just enough wind here and there to get you on the river. At least temps are going to warm up again! Sunday kicks off with “light” west wind. That’s less than 10mph in my book. Afternoon wind rises to 14-17 from Stevenson (rain until 1pm or so) to Rufus with 10-13 east of Rufus to Threemile. River flow Saturday was 115-166kcfs, river temp is 48.38F, and high temp forecast is 55F.

Monday starts light again. Sometime late morning, westerlies pick up to 12-15 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Evening: 15-18 from Mosier to Rufus with 10-13 to the east and west of that stretch. You’ll find rain in Stevenson after 5pm. High temp: 57F. Tuesday starts light. The wind slowly builds during the day. Around lunchtime, you’ll find 21-24 from Avery to Threemile. In the evening, just in time for Indian food at Amayah’s, you’ll find 24-27 from Avery to Threemile. High temp: 60F. Wednesday’s looking like a moderate easterly day. Sometime Thursday or Friday, we should see a stronger westerly day, but it’s too far from now to accurately predict the timing. Have fun out there!

On April 16th at 6pm, Master Gardener Denis Carlson gives a talk at the Hood River Library on controlling rodents in your garden.

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. Cycling

Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trailbuilding season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
