Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hi everyone! One more sunny day on the slopes is followed by four days of snow. And it should be all snow and not some form of less desirable precipitation. Models are holding steady with 2.0 to 2.75” water equivalent (WE) between Saturday morning and Tuesday for 2 to 3 feet of new snow over that period.
But there won’t be any snow on Friday. Nope. Just sunshine. The free air freezing level will be 2500′ Thursday night and will rise to 5000′ by Friday morning. In the afternoon, temps rise to the low 40’s as the freezing level rises to 8000′. Overnight – back down to 4000′. Wind will be SW 5-10 in the morning, SSW 10-20 in the afternoon, and SW 25-40 overnight.
Snow starts up in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday. The snow level will be 4000′ in the morning, 2500-3000′ in the afternoon, and 3500′ overnight. About 0.4” WE is forecast during the day for 4” medium density new snow. Just a trace is forecast in the evening. Wind: SW 25-40 in the morning, SW 20-30 in the afternoon, and W 30-45 overnight.
Sunday will be cloudy early but will quickly add snow. The snow level will be 3500′ all day and will fall to 2500′ or so overnight. During the day, 0.2” WE is forecast for a couple inches of snow. Overnight, 0.7” WE is forecast for 7-8” new. Wind will be SW 30-45 in the morning, WSW 15-20 in the afternoon, and W 35 overnight. A couple more inches are forecast on Monday followed by heavier snow Monday night into Tuesday. Dry weather Wednesday gives way to a sharp warming trend on Thursday. That’ll last through the weekend – dry, sunny weather. Spring, briefly!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends. A bit of back and forth is on tap, but there aren’t clear signs of big easterlies or big westerlies in the near future. For Friday, we’ll start the day with E 20 at Stevenson and E 25 at Iwash (Rooster) Rock. The wind bumps up 5mph midday and backs off to 20-25 at both spots in the afternoon with E 10-15 east of Hood River in the afternoon after a calm start. River flow Thursday was 91-145kcfs, river temp is 42.8F, and high temp forecast is 52F. Saturday starts calm. Westerlies pick up to 12-15 from Stevenson to Doug’s with gusty 19-23 from Avery to Threemile. High temp: 50F with rain to Mosier in the morning. Sunday starts with E 20-25 at Iwash and Stevenson. The wind then turns calm between Stevenson and The Dalles with SW 15-20 from Avery to Boardman. High temp: 47F with rain, then dry weather, then rain.

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
ATTENTION: HRATS is looking for volunteers to help on the Kleeway project on Thursday and Friday (March 7th and 8th) from 9:30am to 1pm. Meet at the Seven Streams kiosk off Post Canyon Road. Bring rakes, shovels, buckets, gloves, water, and snacks. Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
