Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
If y’all want to ski some excellent groom, you’ve got the next three days. The first two will have stellar corduroy AND sunshine. What more could you want? Okay, powder, but you got that on Tuesday! Looking ahead to the weekend, we see moisture in the picture. Saturday definitely looks snowy. The operational GFS has temps right on the edge on Sunday. Let’s wait until tomorrow to make a call, k?
In the meantime… Wednesday will be gorgeous on the mountain. The free air freezing level will be 0′ in the morning, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight under clear, blue sky. Temps max out in the mid 20’s. Expect packed powder conditions. Wind: SW 5-10 in the morning, WNW 10-15 in the afternoon, and NW 15-25 overnight.
Thursday will be sunny all day with some high clouds moving in after midnight. The free air freezing level will be 0′ in the morning, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ after midnight. Temps max out in the upper 20’s. Wind: NW 15-25 early, Variable to 5 in the afternoon, and SW 5-15 after midnight.
A gorgeous sunrise Friday morning gives way to a high overcast day. The free air freezing level will be 4000′ early, 8000′ in the afternoon, and back down to 4000′ overnight. Temps max out in the upper 30’s or low 40’s. Wind: SW 5-15 in the morning, S 10-20 in the afternoon, and SW 25-40 after midnight.
Models drag in some snow, perhaps half a foot total, on Saturday with the snow level around 3500′. Up to another 1.0” water equivalent is forecast Sunday into Monday. Models are a bit up in the air (pun intended) about how warm it will get on Sunday. Probably not too warm for snow, but definitely too warm for dry powder. Models then keep us cool and dry for the first half of next week. That’s followed by a sharp warming trend for the later half of the week. Let’s leave it there for now. Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Tuesday over-performed, and it’s likely Wednesday will too thanks to offshore high pressure. You’ll just have to wait for it to warm up – it’ll be a sub-freezing start. Expect light westerlies early, less than 10mph. Late morning or early afternoon, the wind picks up to 14-17 from Stevenson to Hood River. River flow Wednesday was 100-131kcfs, river temp is 42.44F, and high temp forecast is 46F. Thursday starts with 5mph or so out of the west, rises to 5-10, and drops back below that for the afternoon. High temp: 48F and sunny. Friday sees high pressure shift inland, and that turns the wind around. The day starts with E 15 at Stevenson and 20 at Iwash (Rooster). Add 5mph or so in the afternoon. High temp: 51F under high overcast sky. Models hint at westerlies in the teens (with rain) near Hood River Saturday and Sunday with gusty 18-22 east of The Dalles. See ya on the river!

A few dry days are on tap. Wednesday starts partly Nothing and turns clear. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and mid 40’s later. Light to moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Thursday will be mostly clear then clear. Temps start in the upper 20’s and rise to the upper 40’s. Light westerlies. No rainbows. Friday will be partly Nothing then high overcast. Temps start in the upper 20’s and rise to the low 50’s. Easterlies. No rainbows. The weekend looks at least partly wet with a 99% chance of rainbows. Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are closed until further notice for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
