Gorge Wind Forecast

Short-lived easterlies on Tuesday give way to (gasp!) westerlies on Wednesday and a calm day on Thursday. Easterlies build on Friday and stick around through the weekend. Temps will be colder over the weekend. If you’re wanting some coast action, you’ll have your chance Wednesday and Thursday, but the waves are going to be big.

Tuesday: Iwash (Rooster) kicked things off at 51mph according to iWind/iKite. Stevenson: 31. Viento: 20. Move, people. The wind will drop to 20-25 from Iwash to Stevenson by 1pm and fall to 15-20 this afternoon. River flow yesterday was 120-143kcfs, river temp is 52F, and high temp forecast is 48F. Wednesday brings a bit of a surprise – a weak front moves through early in the morning and high pressure builds-and-holds off the coast. Models suggest 16-19 from Stevenson to Mosier all day long. Fingers crossed! High temp: 51F. Thursday looks dead calm all day. That’ll make your friends and families happy as you won’t be chasing wind.

As I said earlier, easterlies return sometime on Friday and last at least through the weekend. It will be colder this weekend than it’s been recently, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to get on the water. Have a great day today!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – intermittent forecasts until ski season

Not much happens on the mountain for the next week to ten days other than lovely hiking weather – lots of sunny days. No snow piling up. For Tuesday, it’ll be a sunny day until… it’s not. Clouds move in this evening, and a trace of drizzle falls right before sunrise. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 13,000′ this morning, 12,000′ this afternoon, and 9500′ after midnight. Wind: SW 20-30 all day turning to W 25 after midnight.

Drizzle Wednesday morning gives way to clear sky in the afternoon and night. The snow level will be 9500′ early, 6000′ when the precip stops, and the freezing level will fall to 2000′ after midnight under clear sky. About 0.15” rain is expected. Wind: W 20-25 in the morning turns to NW 15-20 in the afternoon and N 15+ overnight.

Northerly wind on Thursday could wreak some havoc. Or not. Depends on what elevation you’re at and the elevation of isothermic air. Minimum wind speed will be N 15 turning to NE 20 in the afternoon, but upper-level wind will be much stronger and could accelerate downslope. Amway, northerlies are usually indicative of clear sky, and that’s the case here. It’ll be sunny and breezy all day. The FAF will be 2000′ in the morning, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 500′ after midnight. Friday looks sunny with the FAF at 500′ early and 2500′ in the afternoon. Expect NE wind at 20-25+. Next chance of precipitation isn’t until the latter half of next week. Dry-land training, people. Dry-land training is where it’s at!

Hood River Weather Forecast

Thursday will be partly cloudy then mostly clear. Temps start in the mid 30’s and rise to 50. Calm wind. No rainbows.

Amayah’s has their one-year anniversary party in Biggs. Also, every first Thursday, 1pm to 4pm, they are offering free meals to all. Yup. That’s right. Free Amayah’s once a month!

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. Cycling

Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
