Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Wednesday. Hi. Light to moderate easterlies the next few days give way to moderate easterlies Saturday through Monday (more than likely). After that? Not much in the ensembles, and gosh does it look chilly!

Wednesday starts with pressures of 30.11/30.16/30.16 for gradients of E 0.05 and 0.00. Pre-dawn easterlies (I gotta work today, so this is early) were 15ish at Viento and 20ish at Iwash (Rooster). Stevenson hadn’t woken up yet. The only reason I feel awake is that I’m staring at a Happy Light while I stare at the computer. Easterlies pick up to 15-20 from Iwash to Stevenson and 15 at Viento for a few hours before fading away this afternoon. Iwash and Viento will be less than 10mph. Stevenson may retain 10mph into the evening. River flow yesterday was 63-86kcfs, river temp is 63F, and high temp forecast is 74F.

Thursday will be calm to start. Mid-morning brings E 10mph at Iwash and Viento and 15mph at Stevenson. After 2pm, the wind turns dead calm thanks to warm temps and high pressure all across the region. Gorgeous day, for sure. High temp: 77F! Friday starts with E15-20 from Iwash to Stevenson with 15ish at Viento. Get on it. The usual afternoon fade happens and leaves everywhere but Stevenson calm. There: 10mph. High temp: 75F.

A new wrinkle has entered Saturday’s forecast in the form of a weak low interceding in our relationship with offshore high pressure. Flow turns onshore, but it’ll be gusty. Also, drizzle is possible midday. Still, if you’re desperate for westerlies, you should get some relief; we’re currently expecting gusty 17-20 from Stevenson to The Dalles. The Near East (Mosier to Doug’s, maybe Rufus) wins on Sunday with low 20’s. Models are all over the place with wind strength for Monday, but they definitely call for some sort of westerlies. Yay. Enjoy the sunshine and warm weather today!

Cycling

Lots of brown pow out there. Go get some for yourself! There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. See events section of this report for upcoming trail work parties on various trail systems. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay?No trails have closed yet due to snow, but we’re likely to lose the highest-elevation trails, at least temporarily, on the 25th . If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
