Gorge Wind Forecast

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Models continue to hold out hope for a stretch of westerlies starting on Saturday and perhaps continuing through the following Wednesday. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, we have a couple days of light wind and a couple days of usable easterlies.

Tuesday kicks off with very light onshore flow: 30.19/30.18/30.17 for gradients of 0.01 and 0.01. westerlies are generally in the 5-10 range all the way from Stevenson to Arlington. Expect the wind to go calm midday. In the evening, the wind switches directions and picks up to E 10-15 from Iwash (Rooster) Rock to Stevenson. River flow yesterday was 63-84kcfs, river temp is 63F, and high temp forecast is 67F.

Wednesday sees high pressure build inland. Warmest temps shift to the west side. This triggers easterlies. The day starts with 20-25 near Iwash, 15-20 near Stevenson, and 15ish near Viento. Get on it quickly. By early afternoon, all locations drop to 10-15 or so. High temp: 73F. Thursday looks quite similar wind-wise and a few degrees warmer temp-wise. Friday: light easterlies, probably not enough for windsports.

A shift to onshore flow happens on Saturday. Models suggest we’ll have upper teens in the afternoon. Keep an eye on Sunday afternoon for stronger westerlies in the Corridor, and watch Monday afternoon for stronger westerlies east of The Dalles. Models hint at those eastern Gorge westerlies continuing Tuesday and Wednesday, but no promises yet. That’s way too far out! Have a great day today!

Cycling

As of right now (Monday morning), Whoopdee was perfect brown pow. Like Whoopdee? There are trailbuilders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail out there. Contact HRATS for more information. Syncline: good right now, with poison oak and ticks for additional challenges. Post? Maybe? See the upcoming events list for upcoming trail work parties. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay?No trails have closed yet due to snow, but we’re likely to lose the highest-elevation trails, at least temporarily, on the 25th . If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
