Gorge Wind Forecast

A short-lived round of easterlies is set for Friday morning. Get it early or you won’t be getting it! The next chances for wind, all easterlies, appear to be Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Coast: intermittent southerlies.

Friday starts with pressures of 29.77/29.95/29.99 for easterly gradients of 0.18 and 0.04. Dawn Patrol easterlies will be 30ish at Iwash (Rooster) Rock, 25ish at Stevenson, and 15ish at Viento. That wind should hold for a few hours. Make a quick exit from the water when your Spidey sense speaks up. By early afternoon, Stevenson and Iwash will be down to 15mph, and Viento 10mph. After 2pm: less than 10mph at Stevenson and calm wind elsewhere. River flow yesterday was 62-90kcfs, river temp is 64F, and high temp forecast is 66F under partly cloudy sky.

Saturday looks calm all day. High temp: 66F. There will be a boat-based celebration of life for Darren Rogers on the river, at the Event Site buoy right before the start of the Memaloose Island Race. Sunday’s wind starts with E 15 from Iwash to Stevenson, rises to 20-25 (15 at Viento), and drops to 15-20 after 2pm. High temp: 69F under high overcast sky. Monday: calm. Tuesday: calm. Wednesday and Thursday: thanks to inland ridging, easterlies are possible under sunny sky. Have a great Friday!

Local-ish Events

Please let me know of outdoor-related local-ish events. If you don’t tell me, I don’t know!

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. Wednesday is the Evo/Kickstand all-ability, no-drop Post Canyon ride. 5:30 from the shop or join along the way. All abilities welcome. This is hardcore, race-pace. Saturday morning is the Mountain View road/gravel ride. Two hours. 12-14mph average speed. Starting May 6th, Oregon Ebikes has the women’s ride at 8:30am. Meet at Seven Streams parking lot for a 1.5 to 2 hour ride.

Cycling

As of yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, Whoopdee was perfect brown pow. That suggests Syncline is too. Post? Maybe a bit slick? See the upcoming events list for upcoming trail work parties. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay? Trails on private land that were previously closed due to fire danger (Hospital Hill, Underwood, Whoopdee) have reopened. No trails have closed yet due to snow. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
