Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s another powder day on Mt. Hood, and the sun might peek out to make it even better! The groom today will be soft and forgiving (unless you’re skate skiing, in which case the groom will make things harder). We’re looking at more snow on Sunday, a switch to mixed precip overnight (most likely), and then a return to snowy weather to start the week.

Saturday will be overcast and then partly cloudy and then clear again overnight. A few flurries may fall in the morning. The snow level will be 1500′ this morning, 2500′ this afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Just a trace of snow is forecast this morning before the sky stops spitting stuff. Wind: SW 10-20 this morning and variable to 10mph from midday on.

Sunday will be clear around sunrise, but it’ll quickly cloud over. Snow starts up late morning and probably switches to mixed precip overnight. The environmental snow level (indicative of air temp and snow quality) will be 4000′ in the morning and will rise to 5500′ in the evening. About 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day. Call that 2” of dense snow. As temps rise to +2C at 5000′, we’ll probably see a switch to very wet snow or snain or perhaps rain. 0.5” WE is forecast overnight. Wind: S or SW 5-15 in the morning, SW 20-35 in the afternoon, and SW 30-50 after midnight.

Mixed precip early Monday gives way to snow by mid-morning. That continues into the evening, and the sky clears overnight. The snow level will be 5500′ in the morning, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ overnight. About 0.6” WE is forecast during the day. Some of that will be slop, and some will fall as snow. 2-3”? Overnight, another 0.2” WE arrives. 2-3” powder. Wind: SW 30-50 early turns to W 25-30 from late morning on through the night. Tuesday looks dry and sunny. There’s a chance of a little snow Wednesday (maybe) before dry weather returns to end the week. Enjoy!

Local-ish Events

Please let me know of outdoor-related local-ish events. If you don’t tell me, I don’t know!
Regular weekly events: NK Studios in Bingen has a donation-based yoga class at 7:30am every Tuesday. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. There’s a weekly group paddle to the Event Site on Sunday at 11 am followed by a free pint at the fire pit at Ferment. That’s the “Paddle n’ Pint”. Also: Wednesday Paddle Sprints at the Event Site at Noon.

Cycling

Well, now the trails are going to be frozen solid. That makes for good riding if you can avoid the invisible icy spots. On the off chance that things thaw later this week under sunny sky, don’t ride. Be prepared to turn around due to freeze-thaw mud. If it was below freezing the night before your ride, don’t ride trails that are exposed to the open air. Those trails will have freeze-thaw conditions, and you’ll do major damage. Consider gravel riding! If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
