Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Saturday starts off beautiful and sunny on the mountain. Snow conditions are hardpack all across the land, and they’ll soften up into transitional snow pretty quickly. Choose your wax wisely, and maybe bring along some rub-on warm wax for the afternoon. Meadows has Suits and Boots today, which is essentially a costume party on the slopes. Dress up and make riding more fun. Rest of the weekend: maybe partly cloudy, but definitely above freezing. Next week: cooler with little bits of snow here and there. Models diverge and disagree starting Thursday.
Saturday will be sunny as can be. The free air freezing level will be 4000′ this morning, 6000′ this afternoon, and 6500′ overnight. Wind will be NW 20 in the morning, W 10-15 in the afternoon, and SW 10 after midnight. Sunday might start clear, but it will turn partly cloudy in the afternoon. Clear sky returns overnight. The free air freezing level will be 6500′ all day. It drops to 4500′ overnight. A few flurries are possible overnight. Wind: SW 5-10 all day climbing to WSW 15-20 after midnight.
Monday will be clear in the morning, partially high overcast in the afternoon, and clear above 4500′ overnight. It’s possible there will be some drizzle, but models seem to indicate the drizzle will stay below 5000′. The free air freezing level will be 4500′ all day and will drop to 2000′ after midnight. Wind: WSW 15-20 in the morning, SW 15-30 in the afternoon, and W 20 overnight. Models hint at some snowfall Tuesday into Wednesday, but they’re far from clear about the amounts. After that, model spread increases, and clarity disappears. That’s okay. We have a giant April snowpack. Go enjoy it!
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Transient high pressure today gives you a shot at steadier westerlies than we’ve seen recently. We then come back under the influence of weather systems for gustier west wind the next couple of days. Saturday starts with gradients of .07 and .05 and westerlies in the 5-15mph all through the Gorge. Midday wind builds to 14-17 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Afternoon: 20-23 from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 159kcfs, river temp is 47F, and high temp forecast is lovely: 64F.
Sunday looks like a partly cloudy, warm day. The wind starts calm. Early afternoon brings westerlies at 8-11mph from Rooster to The Dalles. Evening: gusty 16-19 from Stevenson to The Dalles. High temp: 69F. Monday starts with very light westerlies in some locations and calm wind in others. Later morning westerlies pick up to 17-20 from Mosier to Rufus. In the afternoon, you’ll find gusty 21-24 from Mosier to Rufus. Arlington joins in for the evening session. At that point in time, areas west of The Dalles drop to 10-13mph and pick up some drizzle. High temp: 60F.

Sunshine all day. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and mid 60’s later. Moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Sunday will be clear and then partly cloudy. Temps will be near 40 early and in the upper 60’s later. Light westerlies. No rainbows. Monday looks cloudy with occasional drizzle. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and near 60 later. Moderate westerlies. 81% chance of rainbows.

Cycling
The trails are muddy. Don’t ride in the mud – you’ll damage the trails. Cows are in at Hospital Hill. Do not park near the corral or on Spring Street. Do not take your dog on the land. When cows are there, dogs are not allowed. That means your dog, not just dogs belonging to others. Please don’t piss off the landowners by bringing your dogs – these folks let us use their land, and we owe them respect. Also, there is logging happening on Underwood. Do not enter closed areas. Post is clear to the top of Borderline, and the gate is still closed at Binn’s Hill.

On Saturday, there’s a work party / cleanup at Family Man at 9:30am. Big Winds and Oregon E-Bikes are having their 35th/5th anniversary sales Friday through Sunday. This is in-person purchases only, and there will be music, food, and other fun stuff happening in the parking lot. This weekend is the Cherry Festival in The Dalles (Friday-Saturday), and there’s a gravity-sport downhill race all three days at the Maryhill Loops Road.
Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, you can get a donut and coffee for going for a run at Kickstand Coffee. The Small Boat paddlers have a group paddle on Sunday at 11am at the Event Site. The Dirty Fingers Sunday Service rides happen every Sunday for a while at 9am. They are fast-paced. If you are not, bring a buddy. The ride is followed by bike race viewing and beer drinking at the shop. Post and Pint happens Thursday evenings at 5:30 when Post is not too wet to ride.
