Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
It’s Monday morning, and we’re starting off with an inch of new snow on the ground. We’ll have light to moderate snowfall today before a rapid switch to rain in the afternoon. We’ll have warm weather most of the week followed by a return to snowfall sometime next weekend.
For Monday, snow through midday gives way to rain this afternoon. The snow level will be 2500′ early and will rise to 5500′ by 2pm. It continues to rise through the evening and lands at 8500′ by Tuesday morning. Models are all over the place on total precip for the 24 hour period. They give us anything from 0.2” to 0.6” water equivalent. At 5000′, there will probably be 1-3” accumulation before a switch to rain. Expect 0.2” to 0.4” rain by Tuesday morning. Wind: W 20 early, WSW 15-25 through the evening, and NW 15-25 overnight.
Tuesday starts with some light mist. That might last through sunrise, and it might not. The day eventually turns clear and stays that way overnight. The snow level will be 8500′ in the morning and will rise to 10,000′ in the afternoon as 850mb temps (~5000′) rise to +8C (upper 40’s). Wind: NW 15-25 in the morning fading to S 5-15 in the afternoon and SW 10-20 overnight.
Wednesday may bring some light drizzle that switches to flurries overnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ in the morning, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight under clear sky. Up to 0.1” WE is forecast, for a bit of rain and a micro trace of snow. Wind: SW 10-20 in the morning, W 25 in the afternoon, and light/variable overnight.
Thursday looks clear and sunny after a cloudy start. Friday also looks sunny and above freezing. Our next system is currently forecast to come in late Saturday or early Sunday as snow. Have a great week!
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
