Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
It’s dumping snow in the mountains right now all the way from the base of Skibowl to the top of Cascade. It’s still possible we’ll see a p-type switch this morning, but that isn’t going to affect the overall picture: enough snow this weekend to get you on the slopes somewhere. Tubing at Skibowl is open this weekend – you’ll need advance tickets and reservations to partake. Teacup started grooming last night. Meadows will decide today if they’re opening Sunday or Monday. No info as of the time of this forecast on the T-Line website.
So, today’s weather. Snow with a period of mixed precipitation possible in the mid-morning hours. The snow level will be (by 850mb temps), 3500′ early, 5500′ mid-morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. You’ll notice the water equivalencies (WE) have dropped since yesterday. That does happen sometimes as models come into agreement. We are now expecting 1.2” WE during the day today, for 8-12” new snow between 7am and 4pm. Another 0.4” WE is forecast tonight. That’ll be drier and fluffier, and will result in 4-7” new if orographic assistance kicks in. Wind: WSW 35-70 in the morning, SW 40-80 this afternoon, WSW 30-50 in the evening, and orographically helpful W 40 overnight.
Light snowfall continues all day Sunday. The snow level will be 1500′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 2500-3000′ overnight. About 0.1” WE is forecast during the day, for an inch of new. Another 0.2” WE is forecast overnight, for 2-3” additional powder. Wind: W 40 for much of the day, SW 15-30 in the afternoon and evening. Light snowfall continues on Monday. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 500-1000′ after midnight. 0.1” WE is forecast during the day, for an inch of new. Another 0.2” WE is forecast overnight, for a couple more inches. Wind: SW 15-20 in the morning, S 5-10 in the afternoon, SW 15-30 in the evening, and WSW 25-30 after midnight.
Tuesday looks mostly dry for an epic day on the groom and in the parks. The next system comes in on Wednesday, but it’s unclear what will happen. Various members of the ensembles take this system various places and keep it varying distances offshore. Our preference would be south of the Columbia River and as close to the continental land mass as possible. We’ll keep an eye on this one. Snowfall is likely to be light to moderate, but depending on the path, that snowfall could fall at low elevations too. All that said, it’s going to be fantastic next week for groomed runs, parks, and Nordic. The cold air and light snowfall will keep the snowpack and the corduroy in excellent shape. Enjoy!

Cycling
FREEZE-THAW ALERT: if you notice that temps were below freezing last night and will be above freezing today, don’t ride any trail that’s not under a tree canopy. If you do so, you WILL do significant damage. DON’T DO IT! Plentiful rain recently means most tree-covered trails are muddy. Please don’t ride them either. If you do, you’ll be doing significant and possibly permanent damage. No really, please don’t. There are lots of gravel roads and lots of pavement you can ride instead. Enjoy!

Please let me know about events. I often only hear about them if you folx let me know!
