Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Heavy rain continues on Mt. Hood today. Mostly dry, warm weather is forecast on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning before another round of heavy rain hits. That turns to snow as a cold front swings through midday Monday. The rest of next week looks cold and mostly dry. Before we dive in to the forecast, let’s take a quick look at yesterday’s rain totals: 4.1” at Meadows, 2.63” at Skibowl, and no report at T-Line.
Heavy rain continues through Friday daytime and tapers off. The snow level will be 10,000′ in the morning, 9000′ in the afternoon, and 8000′ overnight. About 2.6” rain is forecast during the day with another 0.6” rain in the evening. Dry weather arrives mid to late evening. Wind: WSW 30-40 in the morning, WNW 30-35 in the afternoon, and WNW 20-30 overnight.
Saturday looks sunny early, high overcast much of the day, and misty or drizzly overnight. The snow level will be 8000′ in the morning and will rise slowly to 11,000′ overnight. Just 0.1” rain is forecast overnight. Wind: WNW 20-30 in the morning becomes SW 10-20 in the afternoon and WSW 35-45 overnight. Sunday looks warm and misty/drizzly. The snow level will be between 11,000′ and 13,000′ with just a trace to 0.1” rain. Wind: WSW 35-45 all day becoming SW 25-50 overnight.
A cold front set for Monday takes the snow level from 12,000′ to 2000′. The initial precip will fall as rain, perhaps 1.0” to 1.25”. Another 0.4” to 0.6” water equivalent (WE) will fall as snow, for 3-5” new. Models aren’t in perfect agreement yet about details, but it does appear it will be very, very windy on the slopes with afternoon wind at WNW 50-60mph. That’ll make for blizzard conditions on the pass and also could knock down some trees if the soil is saturated from recent rain. Be careful!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Not much to say for the next three days, but Monday’s starting to hold some serious high-wind potential as a major cold front blasts through. Friday starts with E 5-10 in the western Gorge and light/variable wind elsewhere. The wind stays light and variable in the central Gorge and picks up to W 10-13 west of Stevenson and east of The Dalles. River flow is 152kcfs, river temp is 53F, and high temp forecast is 62F. Be on the lookout for debris in the river. Saturday starts with light westerlies and turns around to E 10-15 midday at Rooster and Cascade Locks. Sunday starts calm most places with W 15-20 west of Bonneville Dam. Afternoon wind could pick up to W 10-15 all through the Gorge, but it’s going to be spotty and up-and-down. On to Monday: a cold front swings through. Models currently predict near-perfect timing. About 10% of the ensembles call for a super-nuker. About 50% call for 25-30. The rest call for less than 25mph. As always, vote for the windiest of the models!
Coast, Jones, Coast
Done until spring, unless there’s an obvious Coast or Sauvie’s or Jones day.

Cycling
Significant rain in the last week means most trails are muddy. Please don’t ride them. If you do, you’ll be doing significant and possibly permanent damage. Also note: it’s been snowing above 2000′, so higher elevation trails may have significant snowfall. Be prepared if you’re heading up high.
