Gorge Wind Forecast

Friendly, tolerable, and just-plain-copacetic weather continues for the next week or so. That gives us daily westerlies in the moderate to strong range with high temps in the mid 80’s and low humidity. For Monday, we start with gradients of .11 and .04, signaling good hope for all launches between Stevenson and Rufus. Morning wind agrees: 16-19 from Viento to Swell with 13-16 in the eastern Gorge. By late morning, westerlies pick up to 21-24 near Stevenson with 24-27 from Viento to Mosier. Afternoon sees the wind fill in at 24-27 as far east as Rufus. River flow is 160kcfs and temp is 69 degrees. High temp: 84.

Tuesday looks nearly identical, but the wind will be slightly lighter to start. Expect 13-16 from Viento to Hood River at dawn with 10-13 to Mosier and 5-10 east of there. It’s going to take a little longer for the wind to build on Tuesday, partly because morning temps will be about seven degrees cooler. Don’t worry – early afternoon westerlies pick up to 22-25 from Stevenson to Swell, spreading to Mosier in the afternoon. The wind between Viento and Hood River is likely to dip to 18-22 in the afternoon. High temp: 85 degrees.

Mild and unexciting weather continues on Wednesday. Our offshore ridge takes a bit of a positive tilt. That adds some northerly to the flow. Gusty westerlies result for the Gorge, and Sauvie’s gets a bit of added speed in the afternoon. Here in the Gorge: 12-15 from Viento to Hood River to start with 5-10 elsewhere. It’ll be a slow but steady build to 18-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles. It’s back to the 20’s for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Models hint at a quick reversal to easterlies on Sunday, but that’s far from guaranteed at this point. Enjoy your week!

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
