Gorge Wind Forecast

Stable weather over the next few days sets us up for westerlies of some sort. While the offshore high pressure won’t be as strong as we like, and desert morning temps will be cooler than we’d prefer, the wind will stick around in some form or another.

For Saturday, we have light gradients to start and westerlies in the mid teens between Viento and the Wunderbar with 10-13 most other places. Models suggest the wind will dip midday as Portland heats up. In the late afternoon or evening, westerlies should rise to 11-14 or so from Stevenson to Hood River with light and variable wind east of there. High temp: 84.

Sunday starts out with light westerly gradients and 9-12 from Viento to Swell. Light wind can be found everywhere else on Sunday morning. Not much more happens midday. Mid-afternoon wind picks up to 14-17 from Stevenson to Mosier with 10-13 east to The Dalles. It appears that there might be a wee nudge upwards in the early evening; call it 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles. High temp: 87.

Monday’s westerlies get a little friskier. 20-23 starts the day from Viento to Mosier. Afternoon: 24-27 from Stevenson to Rufus. High temp: 86.

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Cycling

8/14: Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood are closed due to fire danger. Respect the closures. Road and gravel news: Due to the Mosier Fire, there is no access to Dry Creek, Osburne Cutoff, Carroll Road, Mosier Creek Road, or other roads in the area. Given significant numbers of fire vehicles on the road, it’s best to avoid the area completely. Motorized report: as of 8/1, Post Canyon is closed to motorized use due to fire danger. Other Post news: Eldorado is closed about 100 yards before the Mixed Tape intersection due to timber harvesting. Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
