Gorge Wind Forecast
Nearly-glassy conditions start the day today, but that’s not how the day will end! Light westerlies are on tap for Saturday. Slightly stronger wind returns for Saturday and Sunday. More details for Friday include the fact that a cold front is headed for the region. Energy associated with that front will bring us afternoon westerlies. To start the day, it’s calm in the west with 5-10 east of The Dalles. By midday, we’ll have gusty 18-22 form Stevenson to Mosier. Mid-to later afternoon, the wind rises to gusty 24-27 from The Dalles to Arlington with 13-16 in the western Gorge. River flow is 157kcfs, temp is 69, high temp today is 81 with relatively high humidity.
Saturday starts out with light westerlies in the west and 10-13 east of The Dalles. Afternoon wind fades and turns light easterly east of Mosier. In the western Gorge, westerlies rise to 11-14 from Stevenson to Swell, maybe Hood River, late in the day. High temp: 81.
Sunday starts with light westerlies and temps in the 50’s. By late morning, westerlies climb to 11-14 form Stevenson to Swell. Afternoon wind rises to 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier with 14-17 from Lyle to The Dalles. You’ll find too-light-to-windsport east of The Dalles. High temp: 85. Monday’s wind is currently forecast to max out at 22-26.
Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).
