Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Once again, it’s clear, sunny and cold on Mt. Hood. Sunshine continues through Tuesday. Light snow returns on Wednesday, followed by model disagreement on the intensity of the snow for the rest of the week. We’ll go with the GFS forecast for now.
For Monday, expect a sunny day. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 0′. Mountain temps will be in the single digits early and upper teens in the afternoon. Wind: W 5 early, SW 5-10 in the afternoon and evening. Tuesday starts off clear. High clouds move in late evening and snow starts up around 1am. Snow level: 0′. Mountain temps: upper teens to low 20’s early and mid to upper 20’s in the afternoon. Just a trace of snow falls between 1am and 4am. Wind will be SW 5-10 early, 10-15 in the afternoon, and S 5-10 overnight.
Wednesday starts off with light snowfall. The snow level will be 0′ early and 1000′ in the afternoon. Despite the low snow level, mountain temps will be in the mid 20’s. About 0.1”-0.2” water value (WV) falls before the snow quits around 1pm. That equates to a couple inches of new snow. Wind will be S 5-10 early, W 10 mid-morning, and NW 15 in the afternoon under partly cloudy sky.
Models are mixed on Thursday. The ECMWF has continued light snowfall. The GFS is dry. Models do agree on a couple more inches of snow with a low snow level on Friday. Enjoy!
Gorge Wind
Easterlies continue… 30-35 all day near Rooster with 25-30 near Stevenson and 15-20 near Viento. Tuesday looks like 40-45 near Rooster and 25-30 near Stevenson early with 25-30 at both locations in the afternoon. Wednesday starts with 25-30 out of the east. It currently appears we will see light westerlies Wednesday afternoon, or perhaps just light and variable wind in Hood River.
JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Hood River Weather Forecast
There’s a thin high Nothing this morning, but that should go away. Temps will be in the teens early and low 30’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks exactly the same. High clouds move in Tuesday night, and snow starts up around 1am on Wednesday. Temps Wednesday will be in the mid 20’s early and mid 30’s later. Up to 2” of snow will fall. We’ll likely see a switch to light west wind midday, bringing the snow level up to 500′. Temps drop below freezing overnight for black ice.

Road and Mountain Biking
Silly rabbit… it’s not biking season in the Gorge. It’s XC skiing and BC skiing season! And Gorge Backcountry skiing. Remember, avalanche hazard does exist in the Gorge too. Be safe, and be wise in your decision making. Dig pits. Avoid wind-loaded steep slopes.
