Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s Sunday morning, and the next few days look sunny and cold on Mt. Hood. Next chance of snow arrives on Wednesday, but there’s zero agreement between the models on whether it will snow or remain dry. Fortunately, it’s cold, so the snow will stay in good shape!

For Sunday: clear and cold. Free air freezing level (FAF): 0′. Temps will be in the single digits to low teens. Wind will be SE 15 early, SE 10 in the afternoon, and light and variable overnight. Monday looks clear. FAF: 0′. Temps: low double digits. Wind: light and variable early becoming SW 10 in the afternoon.

Temps start to warm on Tuesday. The sky will remain clear, and the FAF will remain at 0′. Temps will be in the teen early and low 20’s later. ?Wind: SW 5-10 early, 10-15 afternoon and evening. Models disagree on Wednesday. The GFS keeps precipitation too far south. The Euro ensembles are 50/50 for snow or dry weather. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, enjoy the packed powder!

Gorge Wind

Sunday wind: 30-35 all day near Rooster Rock with 25-30 near Stevenson and 20-25 near Viento. River flow: 95,800cfs. Temp: 35 degrees. The metro area will be windy all three days. Easterlies back off on Wednesday afternoon.

Road and Mountain Biking

Silly rabbit… it’s not biking season in the Gorge. It’s XC skiing and BC skiing season! And Gorge Backcountry skiing. Remember, avalanche hazard does exist in the Gorge too. Be safe, and be wise in your decision making. Dig pits. Avoid wind-loaded steep slopes.
