Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s a mostly sunny Monday morning on the mountain. High clouds move in later today and mess up the blue sky. Similar weather continues for the next couple of days. Starting Thursday afternoon, the pattern changes, and we move into several days of light snowfall.

For Monday, we’ll have sun to start. Then we’ll have high clouds. The free air freezing level (FAF) will climb to 10,000′ with sub-freezing temps below 5000′ or so. Wind will be NE 15 early, W 5 later, and NW 5 after midnight. Tuesday looks sunny. FAF: 10,000′. Wind: NW 5 rising to NW 15 in the afternoon and evening. Wednesday: Clear above with low-to-mid level clouds. FAF: 9000′ falling to 6000′ after midnight. Wind: NW 10 becoming light and variable in the afternoon and SW 10 overnight.

Light snowfall starts up on Thursday evening and continues, if the forecast holds, through the weekend. Accumulations will be in the 1-4” range each day. Not a lot of snow, but better than no snow at all!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Tuesday looks like 40-45 at Rooster and 30-35 at Stevenson. Knock off 10mph in the afternoon. Wednesday starts with 30-35 at Rooster and 15-20 at Stevenson. Afternoon wind looks like 20-25 at both.

Hood River Weather Forecast

The Nothing is out this morning, and may turn into partly cloudy sky this afternoon. However, high clouds will block the sun. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 40’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday starts with nothing and turns sunny. Temps will be near 30 early and in the low 40’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks very Nothing. Temps will be near 30 early and in the upper 40’s later. Hmm… not sure I agree with that high temp. East wind. No rainbows. Next chance of rain is Thursday evening.

Road and Mountain Biking

The dirt on Syncline is excellent. Not excellent are all the new trails made by people and dogs cutting the corners. NOT COOL. Another problem at Syncline: ticks. Yuck. Ticks EVERYWHERE! The Worst Ticks Ever. Maybe wear tick repellent if you’re going there. I’m getting very mixed reports about Post Canyon – some reports are that it’s muddy. Some reports are that it’s tacky. If you try riding there and it’s muddy, please turn around so you don’t damage the trails. Also, we’ll be heading into overnight freezing temps tonight. That puts the dirt at risk for freeze-thaw. See, when dirt freezes and then thaws, the soil structure breaks down. Then it’s super-susceptible to damage. Don’t do it. There are plenty of other fun things to do around here!
