Gorge Wind Forecast
As I’ve said for the last couple of days, we’re headed into a fall weather pattern. This means a series of weather systems will move through the area. In addition, the broad picture will be upper level low pressure off the coast. Gradients will decrease, and the wind we do see will be gusty, up-and-down, and inconsistent.
Sunday starts off with wee little gradients of .03 and .02, making for happy fishing-people: wind speeds were generally in the 0-5 range. We’ll see a slow build to gusty 20-24 from Stevenson to Avery as a frontal system approaches this afternoon. Areas east of Avery will see 10-13 or so. River flow is 72,400′ cfs and temp is 68 degrees.
Monday starts off cloudy and showery in the west, potentially all the way to The Dalles. Under the clouds, you’ll find westerlies at 7-10 or so. East of the low clouds, probably east of The Dalles, you’ll have 12-15. The front moves through during the day, allowing the wind to build to 10-13 in the west and 21-25 from Mosier to Arlington. One model likes the idea of 24-27 from Rufus to Arlington.
Tuesday sees an upper low drop south towards the Oregon coast from BC. The western Gorge will be showery with W 7-10ish all day. Areas east of Rowena, all the way to Arlington, will see 5-10 in the morning and gusty 15-18 in the afternoon. Another model likes the idea of 20-24, so there’s that possibility too. After Wednesday, our weather will be dominated by broad low pressure off the coast, leading to light wind in the Gorge and very happy fishing-people.
BONUS: Jones Sunday: 5-8. Monday: 5-8. Tuesday: nope. Sauvie’s: no, no, no. Coast (north/central/south). Sunday: W10-15/W5/N5-10, W swell 5′ at 8 seconds. Monday: SW10/W5/N5-10, W 8′ @ 10. Tuesday: SW10/SW5/X, W 7′ @ 10.
