Gorge Wind Forecast

Happy Wednesday morning! It’s pre-dawn as I write this, but it sure does look like a nice day for a downcurrent-downwinder. River flow is 79,300cfs, in case you were wondering. We’ll have easterlies for Wednesday and then a return to westerlies through the weekend.

If you’re headed out for today, Wednesday, you’ll find easterlies at 18-22 between Viento and Stevenson until 1pm or so, after which the wind will die off and go calm. Models aren’t giving Rooster Rock east wind today, which is an interesting twist. I’d be surprised if it stays westerly all day, so let’s give it E 5-10 and watch the numbers to see if they end up agreeing with the models. I had a dream last night that Arlington was blowing E 30-50 all day, but I highly doubt that will happen!

Thursday starts out calm or with very, very, very light westerlies. By midday, the wind should be in the 10-13 range from Stevenson to Mosier. As a front approaches offshore late in the afternoon, we’ll see the wind jump to gusty 21-24 after 5pm from Stevenson to The Dalles.

The previously mentioned front swings through on Friday. The morning starts with 13-16 from Viento to Arlington. The afternoon ends up with gusty 24-28 from Stevenson to Rufus. Did I say gusty? I also meant to add “up and down and unreliable”. Saturday’s forecast currently calls for 21-24 (more would not surprise me), and Sunday is 10-13. But wait… if you ask a different model, Sunday looks like 20-23. So there ya go!

BONUS: Jones Wednesday: 16-19. Thursday: 22-25. Friday: 5-10. Sauvie’s Wednesday: 10-13. Thursday: 17-20. Friday: nope. Coast (north/central/south). Wednesday: NW 5-10/X/N 20-25, NW 3′ @ 8. Thursday: NW5/NW5/N15-20, NW 3′ @ 8. Friday: SW5/X/N 15-20, W 3′ @ 8.
