Gorge Wind Forecast
Miracle blow-dryer wind continues for another couple of days, making the wickedly hot weather slightly more tolerable and slightly more dehydrating. The 5am gradient today was at .10 and .02, signifying something will happen near Hood River. Indeed – you’ll find 14-17 early from Viento to Swell with a quick build to 19-22 from Stevenson to Mosier with 10-13 east of there. In the afternoon, the wind will pick up to 21-24 from Mosier to Doug’s and drop to 16-19 from Stevenson to Hood River as the heat fires up.
Speaking of heat, we’re looking at mid to upper 90’s again on Saturday. The day starts with Dawn Patrol at 18-22. We’ll see a midday lull down to 10-13 and then a late afternoon pick-me-up to 13-16 from Stevenson to Doug’s.
Sunday looks blazing hot with 100 likely. Watch out for floating unicorns on the river. We start the day with 10-13 from Stevenson to Swell. Models seem a bit confused about the afternoon wind; this is probably going to depend on where the hottest of the hot air (aka the heat low) ends up. We’ll probably see light westerlies in the west and light easterlies east of Mosier, but that’s a bit of a guess at this point.
It looks like our cooldown is going to be delayed by a day; the Euro actually has Monday hotter than Sunday. SAD! The general picture is increasing westerlies and decreasing temps for next week, with low 20’s Monday and mid to upper 20’s Tuesday through Thursday. YAY! HAPPY!
BONUS: Jones is the winner for the weekend! Friday: 21-24. Saturday: 21-24. Sunday: 23-26. Sauvie’s: 10-13 the next three days. Coast (north/central/south). Friday: W5/W5/N25-30, NW swell 4′ at 8 seconds. Saturday: W5/W5/N20-25, NW 5′ @ 8. Sunday: W5/W5/15-20, NW 4′ @ 8.
Random Morning Thoughts
Sometimes we avoid things because we “don’t want to hurt other people.” Each person has different reasons behind this – fearing rejection, loss of a relationship, personal discomfort with pain, assumptions about how others experience pain… Generally speaking, these assumptions are based on past experiences that may or may not play out in the present situation.
In addition, “not wanting to hurt others” actually places the responsibility for difficult conversations on the other person. By avoiding the discomfort of “hurting others”, we put them in an uncomfortable position of knowing something is wrong and being forced to raise the topic. In other words, we use “I don’t want to hurt others” as a way to avoid confronting situations.
Whether you accept this premise or not, I encourage you to watch how it plays out in your life. Next time you avoid something to protect someone else from pain, really analyze who is gaining what in this situation. You might be surprised what you learn. May you be courageous. Have an awesome day.
