Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There is no snow in the Mt. Hood snow forecast for the next several days. Instead, there is rain. We can reframe that as “base consolidation” if that feels better to you. For Tuesday, the snow level will be 10,000′ early and 12,000′ in the afternoon. We’ll see 1/2” rain during the day, and another 1/2” to 3/4” overnight. Wind will be SW 25 in the morning, SW 45 in the afternoon, and SW 30 after midnight.

Wednesday looks partly cloudy with sprinkles. The snow level will be 11,000′ in the morning and 10,000′ in the afternoon. If the forecast holds, the mountain will just 1/10” rain or so, with heavier rain picking up in the wee hours of Thanksgiving. Wind Wednesday will be SW 30 in the morning and SW 40-45 overnight.

Thanksgiving starts off with a few hours of heavy rain. That will be followed by clear sky and colder temps overnight, leading to icy roads on the passes after midnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ in the morning, 5500′ after the precip ends, and 3000′ overnight. About 1.25” of rain will fall early in the morning, followed by sunshine. Wind will be SW 40 early, WSW 50 in the afternoon, and WSW 30 after midnight.

Friday currently looks cooler and clear in the morning, cloudy and warmer in the afternoon, and sprinkly overnight. The snow level will be 3000′ early, 5500′ in the afternoon, and 8000′ overnight. Just a trace of rain will fall between 4pm Friday and early Saturday. Wind will be WSW 30 in the morning and SW 20 in the afternoon and overnight. Saturday currently looks rainy on Mt. Hood. Sunday looks sprinkly (or perhaps flurries will fall) early with sunshine in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

When our friends and loved ones are hurting, we feel their pain. We want to make it go away. We want to fix the situation. Every once in a while, we may have the ability to do that. More often, the wisdom to find a path out of a situation lies within the person we’re talking to.

If we can tolerate someone’s distress, if we can help them explore it, we can help them connect with their inner wisdom. Help someone feel their pain more deeply, help them understand it better, keep them in it longer, and they will find a path out. This sounds counterintuitive, right? It can even feel repulsive; pain is difficult to bear.

But patience is often a more direct course to resolution than a quick fix. Try it out next time a friend is suffering. You could even try it on you. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

It is way, way too wet and muddy to ride. If you ride, you will damage trails. Please, please don’t. You could try some gravel roads or a rails-to-trails such as the Klickitat or Deschutes. Mark your calendars for the HRATS annual fundraiser at Double Mountain on December 14th.

Upcoming Events

Coming up this evening, there’s pickup touch rugby at 5:45 at the Hood River Marina. There are two by-donation events: a women’s only (anyone identifying as “female”) mobility, strength and self-defense class at First Light in Hood River at 6pm, and meditation with the Pacific Hermitage monks at 6:30 at Yoga Samadhi.
