Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

This forecast would be better renamed as the “Mt. Hood Rain Forecast” this week. An atmopheric river is aimed directly at the Pacific Northwest. Current forecasts have Oregon and Washington under a blanket of warm, wet air through Thanksgiving. In light of this, I might skip writing a forecast on Tuesday!

For Monday, the snow level will be around 8000′ early. As the cold front swings through, the snow level will drop briefly to 3000′ (with no precipitation at that point). As the system swings back through this evening, the snow level will rise to 10,000′ and stay there. Mt. Hood will see about 2” of rain by 4pm, perhaps with a trace of snow at the tail end of that. Rain starts up again after 10pm. The exact location of the system will determine rainfall; the current GFS just has about 1/4” overnight. Wind Monday will be WSW 40 all day and WSW 30 overnight.

Tuesday looks rainy. The snow level will be about 9000′ in the morning and 11,000′ in the afternoon. The mountain will receive 1/2-3/4” rain during the day and 1.5” rain overnight. Wind will be SW 30 early, SW 40+ in the afternoon, and SW 30 after midnight.

Wednesday brings light rain, unless the storm track shifts south, in which case Wednesday brings heavy rain. For now, the Wednesday rainfall total looks like 1/2”. The snow level will be around 10,000′, and wind will be SW 30-40. Thursday sees another 1/2” rain during the day. After the rain stops, the freezing level will drop to 3000′ or so. The extended forecast is hinting at another round of rain for Saturday.

Random Morning Thoughts

It’s Monday morning, and it’s a wet and busy one for me. I’ll leave you to your own random thoughts. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Wind Forecast

A powerful front moving through on Monday will bump up the eastern Gorge wind for a bit. You’ll want to drive early. We’ll have east wind at 10-15 in the morning. After noon, the wind will turn to W 10-13 in the western Gorge and W 23-27 east of The Dalles. The strongest wind will only last for a few hours, and it won’t be particularly steady. Tuesday looks very rainy, but you could try and score yourself some gusty east wind at 30-35 near Rooster Rock with 20-25 near Stevenson.. That’ll be available, and wet, all day. Wednesday looks like west easterlies at 15-20.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s pouring rain in the pre-dawn darkness on Monday. Expect heavy rain through noon and then dry weather through the evening, after which it will rain again. Temps will be near 40 early and 50 in the afternoon. Light east wind in the morning goes to light westerly in the afternoon. 99% chance of rainbows. Tuesday looks very rainy with east wind. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon. 10% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks very rainy early and then less rainy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and upper 50’s in the afternoon. East wind. 32% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Week

Road and Mountain Biking

We’ve had over 3/4” of rain overnight, and now ALL the trails are too wet to ride. Please don’t do it, or you’ll do serious damage that others have to fix. Instead, set up your Zwift or Sufferfest or whatever else you need to do and enjoy the rainy day! Mark your calendars for the HRATS annual fundraiser at Double Mountain on December 14th.
