Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There’s still not so much to say in the Mt. Hood snow forecast, despite the fact that there’s lots of snow high up on the volcanoes. The next few days look wet on the mountain with intermittent accumulation above the ski area bases. Timberline, I’m sure, is pleased.

For Today, Monday, expect a cloudy morning followed by a showery or mixed precipitation afternoon starting around 2pm. We’ll see .2-.3” water value between 2pm and 8pm, after which the precip will end. Call it mostly-rain with no accumulation of snow at 5000′. The snow level will be 9000′ early, slowly falling to 6000′ on Tuesday morning after the precip finishes up. Wind will be SSW 20 early, S 15 midday, and SW 25 after midnight. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Tuesday starts off with just a few sprinkles or raindrops (most likely wet snow), turns dry, and then sees rain pick up afternoon midnight. That second round of precip may start off mixed, but will become clear and wet rather quickly. Expect .3” or so of rain between 2am and 5am. The snow level Tuesday will be 6000′ early, 6500′ when the precip hits, and 8000′ by Wednesday morning.

Wednesday looks wet. Ho-hum. It’ll be rainy all day and all night. Good thing I love a rainy night! The snow level will be 8000′ early, 10,000′ midday and 6500′ after midnight when the rain ends. Expect 2-3” of rain in the 24 hour period. Wind will be S 15 early, rising to SW 30 from 8am onward through Thursday morning.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light easterlies this morning pick up to E 20-25 at Rooster and E 15-20 at Steven’s Locks this afternoon as an upper level low spins off the coast. Sunday looks like light and variable wind early. Another low approaches the coast in the afternoon for easterlies at 15-20. Monday starts off light and variable, goes to E 25-30 at Rooster as yet another low sits off the coast. In the afternoon, a frontal system swings through for west wind at 12-15.

Random Morning Thoughts

We humans are so damned complex, aren’t we? For example, I have an important interview coming up at the end of this week, and I’m having trouble sleeping. Why? Because I know that I need to be well-rested to perform well. Because I really want this internship on so many levels. My nervous system is protecting me from a “no” answer by giving me an excuse (tiredness) that has nothing to do with who I am as a person.

Setting aside my personal stuff, it’s pretty common for us to undermine ourselves when the stakes get high. Or even in everyday life. We doubt, do silly things, can’t sleep, don’t try at all… and we do these things to protect ourselves from the possible future pain of failure. Our brains are wired to avoid failure at almost any cost. After all, when we were cave-peoples, failure meant death, not a missed opportunity.

Next time you notice something big is on the line, check out the subtle ways you might be undermining yourself so you have an excuse for failure. Maybe you’re not sleeping well. Maybe you’re not putting full effort into an application. Maybe you wore board shorts and a t-shirt to a date rather than a collared shirt and clean jeans. When you can undo the subtle effects of fear, you’ll live a fuller, more open, more vibrant life. Have an awesome day, awesome you!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

This morning’s light was spectacular. The closer we get to the nadir, the more orange, yellow and red the sunbeams become. Pretty. Expect a cloudy day today with rain from noon or so on through the evening, ending after 8pm or so. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and low 60’s in the afternoon. East wind turns to light west wind after 2pm. 95% chance of rainbows.

Tuesday looks partly cloudy or high cloudy with just a chance of a few scattered sprinkles in the morning. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 2% chance of rainbows.

Wednesday looks soaking, dripping, drenching wet. Ridiculously wet. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and upper 50’s in the afternoon. East wind. 8% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I think there’s some pretty good dirt out there this morning, and you’ll want to get it before it gets wet this afternoon. I believe Post, Whoopdee, and Hospital are all longing for your attention. Road biking will be good until the rain hits, with light easterlies this morning. You can probably ride Petersburg Loop this afternoon in light west wind and sunshine. It’s worth considering a late-season trip to Plains of Abraham – it looks pretty awesome there right now with snow on St. Helens and no snow on the Plains!

Upcoming Events

It’s Monday, and there’s meditation at Trinity Natural Medicine at noon. That’s followed by Tai Chi at the Mt. Hood Town Hall at 1pm. There’s a walking happiness group that leaves One Community Health in The Dalles at 5pm, there’s Kickball at Daubenspeck Park at 6, free yoga at Samadhi at 6, Pickup Basketball at the Mt. Hood Town Hall at 6:30, free Zumba at St. Francis House in Odell and at the Parkdale Community Center, and YogaFaith (Christ-centered yoga) at Pure Yoga in The Dalles.

Coming up Saturday, the movie Room to Breathe shows at the Columbia Art Gallery. This flick is about a school in California that replaced detention with meditation. Should be good. 5:30pm, Saturday evening.

Have an awesome day today!
