Friday. Calm wind, calm mind?

Outfound Series Festival – Hood River

OutFound is a 3-day adventure sports and outdoor innovation festival taking place on June 9-11th on The Event Site. The activities include a speaker series, a startup competition for outdoor driven brands, an expo, hands-on workshops, creatives games and art, outdoor activities and sports on site, networking hours, outdoor films and music performances.

OutFound’s goal is to bring outdoor enthusiasts and innovators together for 3 days of experiential activities. Outdoor innovation is about out of the box thinking and this mixture of activities encourages that. We believe that getting adventure enthusiasts and leaders together in a creative setting will be a catalyst for exciting new ideas, projects and businesses in the outdoor space.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Friday morning, and there’s a bit of an easterly breeze this morning, quite a bit more than yesterday’s models predicted. We’ll have E 15-20 at Rooster and 10-15 at Stevenson through noon or so, after which the wind will go calm and then turn to very light west in the evening. Saturday starts with E 15-20 at Rooster and 10-15 at Stevenson, fades midday, and goes calm by 5pm. Sunday looks like very light easterlies.

Moving on to actual wind: Monday currently looks like 21-24 in the afternoon, but thunderstorms could mess that up. Tuesday looks like 30+ from Hood River to Arlington pretty much all day. Wednesday looks gustier and more unreliable, but gradients still look strong enough for 30+.

The only thing worth mentioning today is the chance of thunderstorms this afternoon in the mountains. Repeat that chance, but make it a lot stronger, for Monday.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m so sleepy right now that I’m not really capable of crafting thoughts, much less wise thoughts. But it’s a beautiful day, and I’m sure I’ll wake up at some point so I can enjoy it. I hope you do the same. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It will be warm and sunny with light wind for the next three days. Expect a high near 80 today, 85 on Saturday, and 90 on Sunday. Light wind. No rainbows. Next weather excitement is Monday when there’s a chance of thunder and lightning.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

Latest update: 44 Road is open. That doesn’t mean all the trails are (I haven’t heard), but the road is open. Rowena Curves are closed due to a rockslide and hill stabilization efforts. No dogs are allowed on Hospital Hill until the cattle are gone, and several trails are closed due to logging: Innerwoods, below the bench, and roads leading to Innerwoods. There’s a work party on the Pine Mont trails on Saturday. The Sisters Stampede, which is supposed to be quite a hoot, is on Sunday.

Upcoming Events

Today’s Friday, and the only community event on Fridays is the Kickstand Coffee run in Hood River. Show up at the coffee shop at 7am ready to walk or jog four miles, and you’ll receive a free cup of coffee and a donut for your effort.

If you prefer your run without donuts, there’s a group trail run in Post Canyon tomorrow morning at 8am. Meet at the bottom of Post Canyon Road where the pavement turns to gravel. There’s a women’s bike ride leaving mountain view cycles tomorrow morning at 9am, there’s free outdoor yoga at the Hood River Waterfront Park at 9:30, and there’s pint pong at the Hood River Armory at 10:30. There’s a work party on the Kitchen Sink and the 300 trail on Saturday morning at 9am – meet at Pine Mont Staging Area.

Have an awesome day today!
