Wednesday. 8/28. Gorge wind. Incoming rain. Events.

This is Temira! Thank you all for your donations and kind words during last month’s pledge drive. Whew. Glad that’s over. I always feel a little weird asking for donations. That said, should you like to get on the daily email list (where you can occasionally win cool stuff), please take the time to click…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Random Thoughts you may or may not regret reading…

Gosh do I love it when it rains in the middle of summer. Especially when that rain falls on wildfires and mountain biking trails.

Wind forecast guess paragraphs

We’re going to see a nice warm day in the Gorge today, with very little wind, so it’s going to be a great day for Standup Paddling or fishing or road biking. Yes, I know there’s a bit of wind this morning. If you want it, get it now, because it’s going to fade to 10-13 by midday, not picking up again until late in the afternoon or early evening.

Tomorrow starts with light wind, and then we’ll see rain. Blessed, lovely, wonderful rain. After this weather system swings through (if it does before dark), we’ll see afternoon westerlies at gusty 15-18 from Mosier east.

Friday looks like a light start with maybe 13-15 in the afternoon. Saturday looks like east wind. Sunday looks like strong west wind, but I’m not sure I’m buying the model’s wind forecast for Sunday. Speaking of Sunday, there will be no forecast on Sunday.

Don’t forget: It’s time to nominate folks for the Gorge Windsurfing Awards.
You can do that at CGWA’s website through the 28th. Your award choices are: Dale Cook (big air), Grom of the Year, Windsurfer of the Year, Most Selfless Windsurfer, and Most Stoked. Also, don’t forget that new windsurfing windows are 15% off this month at Northwave.

Sports, activities, and other stuff

In great news for trail users, the Forest Service lifted most of the trail and road closures due to the Government Flats fire yesterday. All the trails except the 451 (whatever that is!) have reopened, but parts of the 17 Road and spur roads off the 17 are still closed. Hood River County’s Kitchen Sink trail, has also reopened to non-moto use. Moto folks, start doing rain dances so we can end fire season and get everyone back on the trails.

Speaking of trails, Hood River County is looking for sponsors for toilet cleaning at Family Man. Minimum donation is $150 – cleanings are $45 per visit, and include toilet paper. Hooray. We’re working on signage to thank all the sponsors, so start thinking if you or your business would like to be a Potty Hero, and shoot me an email.

Tonight’s roundup: at 5:30, there’s women’s mountain biking at Dirty Fingers, whitewater paddling at Husum, kids mountain biking at Family Man, and Qi Gong at Wilson Park. At 6pm, there’s sailboat racing in Hood River, there’s Tai Chi at Wilson Park, and there’s pickup Ultimate Frisbee at Wy’East Middle School.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
