Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Tuesday morning, and there was an AMAZING sunrise on the ski resort webcams this morning. There are high clouds above the mountain now, and there shall be high clouds above the mountain all day. No precip. The free air freezing level will be around 1000′ this morning. Warmer air arrives this afternoon, taking the freezing level to 6000′. Widn will be SSW 10 in the mornign and SW 15 in the afternoon.

Wednesday starts out with high clouds. Precip moves in around 1pm and continues through Thursday. This system looks borderline for snow, and what does fall will be heavy. The snow level will be 6000′ in the morning, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 5500′ overnight. We’ll see .8” WV between 1pm Wednesday and 4am Thursday. That’s probably going to be a mix of snow and rain with 3-5” of acumulation possible. Wind will be SW 15 in the morning and SW 25 in the afternoon and evening.

The snow level falls to 5000′ or so during the day on Thrusday, but there won’t be all that much precipitation unless the storm track changes. For now, let’s call it cloudy with 1-3” of snow (probably the low end). Wind will be SW 25ish all day. Friday’s snowfall really depends on the track of Friday’s weather system, so let’s not make any predications right now. The only thing I can say is that it looks like the snow level will be around 5000′.

Random Morning Thoughts

I had this moment of utter panic this morning when I realized I’d forgotten to pay my hosting bill for my website. When things like this happen, I tend to go immediately to the question of “How much time is this going to take?” My assumption is always that it will take a really, really long time.

I suspect many of us struggle with time management. After all, it’s nearly impossible to squeeze all the pieces of a busy life into 24 hours a day. We cram everything in, and leave very little time for silence.

I was waiting to see my therapist yesterday and struck up a conversation with a woman in the waiting room. Someone had just wandered through and turned on the radio, and I walked over and turned it off. This woman and I shared a knowing smile. She told me how much she appreciated this one hour of silence in her week while she waited for her son to talk to his therapist.

Our nervous systems haven’t evolved to stand as much input as we receive these days. They appreciate ae reset, whether it’s a cup of tea, a quiet walk in the woods, a silent room, meditation, or whatever silence looks like for you. The hard part can be giving yourself permission to enjoy that silence without guilt or the pressures of the rest of those waiting inputs. But give it a shot one time, just for the heck of it. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Tuesday morning, and there’s a strong easterly breeze in the western Gorge. That will continue all day. Expect 40mph near Rooster 30-35 near Stevenson, 20mph near viento, and 7-11 everywhere else all day long. Wednesday also looks super windy: 40-50mph near Rooster, 30-40mph near Stevenson, 20-25 near Viento, and 10-15 elsewhere, all day. Thursday starts with 35-40 near Rooster, fades during the day, and turns to light westerly after 1pm.

Gorge Weather Forecast

There seems to be Nothing happening in the sky right now, so I guess we will see a cloudy start before a sunny afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 40’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Wednesday starts off cloudy and turns rainy (snow-then-freezing-rain is possible for outlying cold spots). Temps will be just above freezing early and in the low 40’s in the afternoon. Strong easterlies. 1% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks rainy and then showery. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s in the afternoon, but only if an incoming low turns the wind westerly. That is questionable. Anyway, strong easterlies fade quickly, going to west wind in the western and eastern Gorge and light wind in the central Gorge. 3% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Week

Road and Mountain Biking

Being winter, it’s rather wet out there to ride. Remember, if you ride muddy trails, you damage them. Then volunteers have to spend time fixing them rather than building new trails. Syncline is your best bet for riding right now. One other thing: all trails and roads in Post Canyon have reopened to public use as of Monday. Be cautious, because there is damage and unstable tread due to logging operations.

Upcoming Events

It’s Tuesday, yay. There’s pickup touch rugby at 5:45 at the Hood River Marina and meditation with the monks from Pacific Hermitage at Yoga Samadhi at 6:30. Coming up Wednesday night, there’s ping pong at the Hood River armory at 5:30, free zumba at St. Francis House in Odell at 6, and free YogaFaith at Pure Yoga in The Dalles at 6:45. The Warren Miller Movie ‘Line of Descent’ plays at Andrew’s on Wednesday night. There’s a free half-day meditation retreat at Yoga Samadhi from 1-5pm on Saturday.
