Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s a drizzly Sunday morning on Mt. Hood. Sometimes that drizzle is mixed with snow, and sometimes not. That’s the picture for Sunday. A little snow will fall Sunday night. Heavy rain moves in for Monday night and Tuesday. Next chance of snow is Thursday, but models are in disagreement about the amount.

For Sunday, a snow-rain mix will fall all day, switching to light snow after 7pm. Snow level 6000′ for most of the day, 5000′ late evening, and 3500′ after midnight. Precip totals will be 0.3” water value (WV) of rain/snow mix during the day (no accumulation) with 0.2” WV overnight. That late-night precip should fall as 1-2” of new snow. Wind will be SW 20-30 for the 24 hour period.

Monday starts off with a few flurries, turns partly cloudy, goes to heavy wet snow, and then switches to heavy rain by 7pm. Snow level 3000′ early and 7500′ in the evening. A trace of snow will fall early, a few inches of wet snow will fall before a switch to rain, and then approximately 2.5” to 3” of rain will fall overnight. Wind will be SW 15-20 early, SW 20-30 in the afternoon, and WSW 50 overnight.

Tuesday starts off wet. A few snow flurries may fall at the end of the “wet” mid-afternoon, and then dry weather sticks around overnight. Snow level: 7500′ early, 6000′ mid-morning, 5000′ in the afternoon. Precip will be 2.5” WV, most of which falls as rain. A trace to an inch may fall at the end of this system. Wind will be WSW 50+ all day and W 35-40 overnight. Next chance of snow is Thursday, but models really disagree on how much.

Gorge Wind Forecast

For Sunday, we’ll have morning easterlies at 40-45 near Rooster 30-35 near Stevenson, and 15-20 near Viento . The wind will fade as the day goes on, ending up with 10-15 out of the east. Monday looks light and variable all day. Tuesday starts with light east wind and turns around to gusty westerlies at 13-16 after 11am. If you do plan to get in the river on Tuesday, watch out for unmarked obstacles and hazards – heavy rain Monday night into Tuesday will wash all sorts of things into the Columbia.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Road and Mountain Biking

Stay out of Post – it’s too muddy and too freeze-thawy. Even if you have a fat bike. You’re damaging delicate trails and undoing the hard work of many, many volunteers. The Power Station has a really wonderful virtual bike setup. I know it’s not the same, but it’s better than damaging the dirt.

Upcoming Events

Happy Sunday! We have community yoga at 9am at Samadhi, ping pong at the Skamania County Fairgrounds at 10:30, and all-ages rugby at the Hood River Marina at 11am.
