Gorge Wind Forecast
Happy Labor/Labour Day weekend, everyone! Looks like we’ll have moderate westerlies each day this weekend, including Monday. Fingers crossed that the wind is light enough early for those Cross Channel swimmer!
Saturday started off with low 20’s in the usual windy zone: Viento to Mosier. Other locations were lighter, mostly in the 10-13 zone. A weak offshore front will move through this morning, increasing clouds in the far west and decreasing the wind quality by a notch or two (however much that is!). You can expect 21-24 pretty much all day today. Specifics include 21-24 from Viento to Moiser this morning and 21-24 from Mosier to Avery this afternoon. It looks like we’ll see a midday lull to 18-22 for all windy locations midday; the Swell to Hood River stretch will not recover from the lull. As for Stevenson, let’s go with a slow build to 18-22. Rufus may join in after 5 tonight, and Arlington will languish at 10-13 or less all day.
Sunday’s model predictions agree on a light westerly start that may be as strong as 7-10 or may not. One model likes no wind, but let’s toss that out. I think we’ll see 16-20 from Stevenson to The Dalles tomorrow afternoon. That might be a bit optimistic… the lower end of that is likelier than the higher end.
Looking at Labour Day, the wind starts with 17-20 from Viento to Hood River and picks up to 20-23 from Stevenson to Avery. Depending on the approach path of incoming low pressure areas, we could see more wind than that. Tuesday looks like east wind at 20-25.
BONUS: Jones Saturday: 12-15. Sunday: 20-23. Monday: 10-13. Sauvie’s Saturday: 12-15. Sunday: 15-18. Monday: 13-16. Coast (north/central/south). Saturday: 20/20-25/30+, W swell 4′ at 13 seconds. Sunday: 20-25/25-30/30+, NW 5′ @ 11. Monday: 15-20/20-25/35+, NW 5′ @ 10.
