Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Wednesday sees the snow level at 6500′ for until the afternoon. The snow level will drop to 5500′ around sunset and 3000′ in the evening, but most of the precip will be done by then. Models are disagreeing a bit on the temps as well, with the Euro predicting a higher snow level than the GFS, and thus rain for longer. For now, let’s go with .6-.8” rain between 5am and 5pm followed by 1” of precip between 5pm Wednesday and 5am Thursday. We’ll probably see 2-3” of snow out of the overnight precip, with 8-10” up high. Wind on Wednesday will be WSW 25 in the morning and WSW 35 in the afternoon and evening.

Thursday is looking partly cloudy and dry. The free air freezing level will be 1000′ early and 3000′ in the afternoon and 1500′ after midnight. Wind will be W 30 in the morning, fading to SW 15 in the afternoon and overnight. There’s another round of significant precipitation coming in on Saturday, but it currently looks like the snow level will be around 5500′. We’ll have to wait and see how the models shake this one out.

Random Morning Thoughts

People often feel distress when they believe they are unique and alone in their struggles. Our natural tendency to hide our difficulties makes this even worse; because American culture tells us to hide our feelings and pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, we don’t reach out to others. In doing so, we perpetuate the myth that everyone except us has it together all the time.

When we all go through life hiding our painful feelings from our friends and communities, we pressure on others to keep quiet too. By reaching out and asking for help, we set an example for others. We show that it’s okay to be a human with painful emotions.

Reaching out to others is scary, but so is thinking you’re alone. I’m guessing the latter hasn’t worked all that well for you in the past, so you might as well try the former. You’re awesome. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
