Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday

Ah yes, the joy of wet precipitation on the mountain. And wind. We’ll see light, occasional mist this morning on Mt. Hood, quickly switching to light and occasional snow flurries. Total precip will be .05” water value or less for trace amounts on the ground. The snow level will be somewhere way up there early, falling to 2500’ by 10am and rising to 3000’ by 4pm. The wind will be windy: NW 30-35 early, dropping to 20-30 by 10am and then going to N 15-20 by 4pm.

Tomorrow looks dry and clear with a developing inversion. The Nothing will haunt the Gorge, but the sun will stalk Mt. Hood. The freezing level will rise to 8000’ in the afternoon. The wind will be E 10-20 early going to NW 5-10 late.

Tuesday brings a strong inversion in the morning (expect the Nothing again in the Gorge) and a weak, mostly dry system late in the day. The freezing level will be 7000’ early, dropping to 6000’ by 10am and falling to 4000’ by 7pm. Any precip will start around 1pm, falling as light r**n before switching to light snow. Total water value will be less than .1” for nearly no accumulation. Wind will be NW 20-25 early, picking up to NW 30-35 by 10am and going to N 20-30 in the evening.

Wednesday looks cold, with east wind and no precip. Next chance for significant snowfall: Friday.

Today is the NW Demo Tour at Meadows, with free demos of lots of 2012 skis and boards.

Have an awesome day today!

We’re back in the high pressure ridge sunny Mt. Hood setup today. Speaking of sunny, I was in Portland yesterday and it was gorgeous. Sunny, warm, beautiful. The Gorge really gets screwed over during these high pressure inversions.

Today looks sunny and warm on Mt. Hood. The freezing level will be 10000’ for most of the day, slowly dropping to around 8000’ by midnight when clouds start moving in. The wind will be SW at 5-10 early, picking up to WSW 25-30 by 7pm.

A weak cold front moves in tonight, packing a massive wallop of .05-.1” water value. Total accumulation will be 1″, 2″ if we are very lucky. Precip starts around 4am tomorrow, quite possibly starting as rain (in the grand tradition of the NW Demo Tour) and quickly switching to snow and continuing as light flurries through 4pm.The snow level will be around 5500’ at 4am, dropping to 1000’ by 7am and then slowly rising to 3000’ by 4pm. It’s going to be windy tomorrow too. WNW 30-40+ at 4am goes to NW 35-45 at 7am, dropping to NW 20-30 by 10am and going to N 20-25 in the afternoon.

Monday looks dry and clear, with the freezing level around 6000-7000’ and N wind at 15-20. A weak system brushes Mt. Hood on Tuesday. At this point, the GFS doesn’t snow much in the way of moisture, but other models are a bit more optimistic. At this point, I’d suggest planning on very little snowfall in the next 5-7 days.

For the crazy windsurfers and kiters out there, this morning’s .12 east gradient is enough fro 25-30 at Stevenson and 30-35 at Rooster. Tomorrow brings westerlies at 21-24, assuming the front comes in early enough to kick them off.

For slopeside entertainment this weekend, Santa will be at Skibowl today, there’s a rail jam at Meadows today, and the NW Demo Tour will be at Meadows on Sunday. Also this weekend, Heather Herbeck is holding a “Pray for Precip” party somewhere, location TBD. If you can’t be there for the party, be there in spirit, because we need some rain or snow or … something!

Have an awesome day today!
