Friday
Saturday
Sunday

Good morning,

Well, it’s raining again on Mt. Hood. The freezing level is around 7500′. It’ll rise to 9000′ this afternoon. Wind will be W 30-40, dropping to 20-30 in the afternoon. It’ll rain all morning, with .1-.3” total precip, ending by 2-5pm. Tomorrow, Sunday and Monday look sunny on Mt. Hood. The freezing level will be 10,000′ Saturday with SW wind at 15-25. Sunday and Monday see the freezing level at 12,000′ with SW wind at 10-15.

In the wind forecast, today brings afternoon westerlies at 10-15 near Hood River, probably filling in out east also. Tomorrow brings east wind at 10-15 and Sunday brings east wind at 15-18.

Basically, the weekend looks sunny and warm, with highs nearing 70 degrees. It’s going to be perfect weather for road biking and mountain biking.

Speaking of mountain biking, please consider helping out with the Whoopdee work party tomorrow (some work happening in Post Canyon too). We’re sorely lacking in trails right now, and it will be awesome to have a brand new trail. Meet at 10 Speed Roastery (13th and State) tomorrow morning. Bring water and snacks, although there will be a few bagels and cream cheese from HR Bagels and Rosauers.

In other events, tonight is a Dimwits ride at the Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB trail. Team Tarkio presents a kayaking slide show at the Pint Shack. Tomorrow is the Trout Lake Run (a race), benefiting the Trout Lake School. In big, cool event news, National Geographic explorer Andrew Shurka will be at Columbia Center for the Arts tomorrow night presenting on his travels in the Yukon.

On Sunday, the Columbia Gorge Offroad Association has a moto ride at Pinemont. It’s also Earth Day, and HR’s Earth Day tradition is the annual weeding party at the Waterfront Park. Be there.

Wow. That’s a lot of stuff going on. Have a great day.

Have a great day today!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Thursday
Thursday
Friday

Good morning,

Well first off, Jeff Blackman needs 8 volunteers Friday morning to help him winch big logs off Seven Streams trail. This is short notice, but if you can help, reply on the HRATS FB page. Next, the Waterfront Park weeding party is Sunday. Sunday, not Saturday. Someday I’ll learn to read three times before hitting “send”.

Last, the majority of the workers on Saturday’s HRATS trail work party (meeting at 10 Speed at 8:30), will be working on the Whoopdee trail. If we can get this section in, Steve will be able to get his machine in to cut in the rest of the loop. We need lots of volunteers. Expect a strenuous 15 minute hike in. Bring McLeods and grub hoes (we’ll have tools too), as you’ll be benching in about 200 yards of sidehill. Why the Whoop? Because we want a new trail! Because we want any trail! Because Steve’s been working nearly alone for a long, long time to make this happen. Show up and let’s get ‘er done! The high on Saturday should be near 70 degrees!

In events news, Columbia Center for the Arts hosts another stellar event: Andrew Shurka’s Alaska-Yukon adventure slideshow. You don’t want to miss this one, and it’s probably going to sell out. 7pm on Saturday, $10. We’re giving away a set of tickets tomorrow. Still thinking of the contest rules… Other events: Tonight is the Reel Paddling film festival in Portland. Tomorrow night, Team Tarkio presents a slideshow on kayaking in Bhutan. Pint Shack. 7pm.

On to the snow forecast: Snow level rises from 6500′ to 11,000-12,000′ today. Sprinkles this morning, downpour this afternoon, with 1” of rain on Mt. Hood by tomorrow morning. SW wind at 15-25 early, rising to 25-35 this afternoon.

Friday morning on Mt. Hood brings sprinkles, with clearing in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 8000′ early, rising to 9000’. Total rain: .1-.3”. Wind will be SW 30-35 all day.

Saturday and Sunday on Mt. Hood look clear and warm, with the freezing level at 11,000′ and SW wind at 10-20 both days. We’ll see high clouds move in Sunday afternoon.

In the wind forecast, easterlies at 15-18 today. Westerlies tomorrow afternoon at 13-15 near Hood River. No wind Saturday. Not much wind Sunday. Monday still looks good. However, instead of a static weather setup, there’s now a weak system in the picture, which may make the wind gusty and inconsistent. We’ll still see afternoon westerlies in the 26-30 range.

Have a great day today!
