Good morning,

First off this morning, thank you to all of you who voted for me in Grant’s photo contest. I went from being in not in contention to winning April’s contest 12 hours later! So, now we’re in the finals. Think of this as a way to say thank you for the free forecasts! Please go to Grant’s website, scroll over the photo of me (red helmet, brown gloves, big smile), and click on the green thumbs up. You can do it once from each of your web-enabled devices. If you don’t mind sharing via Facebook and other social media, I’d much appreciate it. I really want a brand new pair of Icelantic skis! (Shane, no offense intended).

Today’s highlight is definitely the thunderstorm potential. Make sure you have camera in hand this morning, this evening, and tomorrow morning. Thunderstorm clouds make for great sunsets!

In the wind forecast, you have no wind this morning, picking up to west 21-23 near Hood River this afternoon. However, don’t count on great wind, as thunderstorm conditions make for sucky kiting and windsurfing. Tomorrow brings westerlies at 15-18 near Hood River. Wednesday looks light and rainy. Thursday is a long ways out, but could be windy.

Not much going on up at Mt. Hood: Thunderstorms this afternoon with the freezing level at 12,000′. SW wind increasing to 15-25 this afternoon. Ok, I guess thunderstorms are something! Tomorrow starts off with the freezing level at 12,000′, dropping to 9000′ mid-morning, with rain showers during the morning and overnight into Wednesday. Wind will be W 15 early, swinging to SW 15-20 at 11am and SW 20-25 at 5pm. Wednesday will see light rain in the morning with heavy rain overnight into Thursday. The freezing level will be 8500′ all day. Wind will be SW 20-25 in the morning, going to S 20-25 in the afternoon. Thursday looks rainy early, with the snow level dropping to 2500′ by 8am with flurries and WSW wind at 30-40.

In events, lots going on: The movie Garbage Warrior tonight at Andrew’s. Bike racing on the tele coupled with beer drinking at Dirty Fingers Bar and Bike Shop. Pedal Driven, the bike documentary, as an HRATS fundraiser on Thursday night at Springhouse Cellars.

Have a great day today, and enjoy the thunderstorms!

Have a great day today!

Good morning,

Round two of “please vote for me” Click through to this Grant Myrdal photo gallery and scroll over the photo of me (red helmet, brown gloves, big happy smile) and click on the green thumbs up. I could win a new pair of skis, and I sure need them! Thank you, and please share via Facebook and other social networking. It’s going to take a lot of votes to win.

Oh yes. Another lovely day. With thunderstorms in the forecast tomorrow, we should have a stunning sunrise tomorrow and Tuesday and a gorgeous sunset Monday night. Make sure your camera is charged!

First off, a million thanks to the 62 of you who showed up to work on the Whoopdee trail yesterday. I think Steve was relieved and thrilled to have such a big turnout. Thanks also to Jeff and his crew for their work moving logs from Seven Streams. There are only a couple of logs still down on the trail (and many muddy patches). However, Toilet Bowl is not open, and salvage operations are ongoing there. Please stay out. In addition, there are many trees down on 8-Track, so the riding is quite limited. Just keep that in mind. And… there’s a HRC sign at the bottom of Seven Streams saying the trail is closed. That said, I went running up there yesterday and ran into 15 or so very happy people out on the trail. Know that your hard work is appreciated.

On to the Mt. Hood forecast: The freezing level will be above 10,000 for the next three days, with SW wind in the 15-20 range. Tomorrow brings a pretty good chance of thunderstorms, starting around 11am and continuing through the afternoon and evening. Tuesday just looks sunny.

In Gorge wind news, we’ll have light easterlies today, switching to light west wind. Tomorrow starts off with light easterlies, swinging to the west and picking up to 17-20 in the afternoon. However, those thunderstorms are going to make windsurfing and kiting a bad idea tomorrow. Tuesday starts off with westerlies at 17-20, fading in the afternoon as an upper level low swings up the coast.

For events, you have the Waterfront Park weeding party today from 9am on and a CGORA ride at Pine Mont starting at 10am. Tomorrow night the film “Garbage Warrior” plays at Andrew’s. I just wanted to say “garbage warrior.”

Have a great day today!
