Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Unseasonable cool weather sticks around through the first half of next week, and light snowfall continues too. While there aren’t any giant pow days in the forecast, there’s just enough snow to keep the groom awesome. And the skating slow. But hey, you can’t have it all!
Light, intermittent snowfall continues in an unstable atmosphere Saturday night into Sunday morning. A couple inches are forecast with the snow level falling as low as 1000′ and temps in the low 20’s on the slopes. Overnight wind: SW 15-20 turns to WSW 15-20. Sunday brings intermittent snow in the morning and steadier snow in the afternoon and overnight. The snow level will be 0′-500′ in the morning, 2000′ in the afternoon, and back down to 0′-500′ overnight. About 0.3” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for 3-4” dry powder. Models suggest 0.5” WE overnight for 5-6” more. That really depends on where showers set up. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we see less. Wind: WSW 10-20 early, W 25-30 in the morning, SW 10-15 in the afternoon, and W 25 after midnight.
Monday will be sunny, then high overcast, then snowy. The free air freezing level will be 0′ in the morning. The snow level will be 1500′ in the afternoon and down around 0′ overnight. Just a trace of snow falls in the daytime shift. In the evening, 0.2” WE is forecast for 2-3” dry powder. Wind: W 25 early, SW 10 in the afternoon, and E 15-20 after midnight. A few flurries on Tuesday give way to mostly clear sky. Snow level: 0′ rising to 1000′ dropping back to 0′. Wind: E 15-20 turning to NE 15 in the afternoon and NW 15-20 overnight. It’s worth mentioning that some ensembles members actually bring quite a bit of snow in the Monday-Tuesday time frame. I know… I said yesterday we’d have clarity today, but we don’t!
Model do suggest the weather will remain dry and cool Wednesday and Thursday with dry, but warmer weather forecast to start Friday. More active weather, aka wetter weather, is forecast next weekend. Deets, of course, are unclear this far out. In the meantime, enjoy the awesome snowpack!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends. Not much is happening in wind for the next few days. Sunday starts with W 10-15 at Iwash (Rooster) Rock and calm wind everywhere else. Afternoon wind picks up to W 10-13 from Stevenson to Boardman. River flow Saturday was 101-135kcfs, river temp is 42.46F, and high temp forecast is 44F. Monday starts with W 7-10 all through the Gorge. The wind goes calm midday and then picks up to E 10-15 at Stevenson and only at Stevenson. High temp: 43F. Tuesday will be calm in the morning with E 5-10 all through the Gorge in the afternoon. High temp: 43F under mostly clear sky. Next chance of enough west wind to get on the river? Maybe Wednesday? But definitely not certainly Wednesday. Hey, it’s winter. It’s time to get your dock start down… or so Andy keeps telling me!

There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are closed until further notice for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
An inch or two or three of new snow is forecast in the next couple of upcoming 24 hour periods. That’ll be just enough to make the groom awesome and hopefully enough to keep things excellent off the groom too. Wondering about snowpack health? We’re currently at 88% of the 1991-2020 median. Not bad. Not bad at all!
Friday night into Saturday morning brings a couple inches of snow to the slopes. The snow level falls from 2000′ Friday night to 500-1000′ Saturday morning. Wind will be SE 15-25 overnight. Saturday starts cloudy, turns clear briefly, and then adds snow. The snow level will be 500′ in the morning, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight. Temps will be in the low 20’s during the day at 5000′. About 0.3” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day. That’s 3-4” powder. Another 0.3” WE arrives overnight for 3-4” more. Wind: SW 15-25 early, W 30 in the morning, WSW 30-35 in the afternoon, and WSW 15 overnight.
Partly cloudy or clear sky early Sunday adds snow mid-morning. The snow level will be 0′ in the morning, 2000′ in the afternoon, and back to 0′; overnight. Temps: low 20’s. About 0.1” to 0.2” WE falls during the day for 1-3” new. Overnight: a trace to an inch of new. Wind: WSW 15 early, SW 10-20 midday, W 15-20 afternoon and evening.
Models disagree on the forecast for Monday, so we’ll leave it there for now. I’m sure that’ll clear up by tomorrow’s forecast. The weather will stay cold, but it’s unclear if we’ll pick up more snow or not; models are all over the place. Have a stellar Saturday on the slopes!

Gorge Wind Forecast
A low pressure system moving inland on Saturday afternoon will kick off some moderate westerlies. The next several days after that look too light for windsports. Saturday starts with 5-10 from Stevenson to Doug’s with W 15-18 from Avery to Boardman. As a low pressure system approaches and then moves inland in the afternoon, westerlies pick up. You’ll have a couple hours of gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to Doug’s with gusty 20-23 from Avery to Boardman. Rain pushes deeper inland in the afternoon and knocks the wind down to 5-10 from Stevenson to The Dalles, 13-16 from Avery to Celilo, and holds it at 20-23 from Rufus to Boardman. River flow Friday was 83-135kcfs, river temp is 42.26F, and high temp forecast is 43F. Sunday starts calm and potentially snowy and picks up to W 10-13 with rain showers. High temp: 43F. Monday looks almost identical to Sunday. The forecast is currently calm for Tuesday and Wednesday, but that could change as could almost any forecast that far out! Looks like some great groom on the mountain. Maybe come skate!
