This is Temira!
Thank you all for your donations and kind words during last month’s pledge drive. Whew. Glad that’s over. I always feel a little weird asking for donations. That said, should you like to get on the daily email list (where you can occasionally win cool stuff), please take the time to click on the sun below and make a donation of $12 or more. That gets you a year’s subscription, and it makes me smile, because I know then that the hard work I put into this is worth a lot to you. Thank you for reading my work, and thank you for donating. Have a wonderful day!
Random Thoughts you may or may not regret reading…
Good morning! My legs are sore today. Why? Because I rode my bike for 12 minutes yesterday. 12 minutes of hell. Well, 9 minutes of purgatory, and 3 minutes of hell. Intervals: doesn’t take much. Maybe that’s why I slept through an hour of my alarm playing The XX…
Wind gut instinct non-scientific forecast
This morning’s marine push is a sight to behold if you’re a Gorge meteorologist (I’m not. I’m just a hack. I’m not impressed, as you can see). Marine deck past Hood River on the 1st of August shows impressive determination on the part of Mother Nature. Along with those clouds, we have .14/.08 today. We’re still under the influence of an upper low, so we could see thunderstorms fire up, and we could see gusty wind, but we’ll see wind. The strongest wind, however, is dependent on that ULL leaving our sphere of influence.
Judging by the webcam, Mosier’s the place to be this morning. With the marine deck past Hood River, Stevenson-Hood River will be gusty, with westerlies at 17-21, possibly picking up a LOT if the clouds burn back. East of Mosier, the wind will slowly build to 26-30, hitting 30+ after 2pm at Doug’s, Maryhill and Arlington.
The deep marine layer continues into tomorrow, for west wind at 23-27, likely strongest east of Hood River, with 15-18 in the western Gorge. Saturday brings west wind at 21-24, and Sunday is a question mark – high pressure building in has the models suggesting no wind, but I’m going to go against the models at this point and say 15-18 or more.

Coming up this evening in Hood River, it’s Families in the Park with 7-piece band Jacob Merlin. Head to Jackson Park in Hood River to joint this family-friendly event. Not so family-friendly this evening is the Post n’ Pint ride at Dirty Fingers, where men beat their chests, try to ride faster than each other, sweat profusely, and then drink beer. If that sounds like fun, meet at Dirty Fingers at 5:30pm.
Starting tomorrow in Cascade Locks and continuing through the weekend, there are all sorts of sailboat races going on Swing by and check it out sometime over the next three days. There’s also sailboat racing in Hood River this weekend with the Moore 24 championships. I do believe we have local racers in the lineup, so maybe someone out there can tell me the names of the skippers and boats and we can cheer them on through our inboxes.
Coming up tomorrow night, it’s First Friday in Hood River. Also this weekend, Big Winds has a free standup paddle race at Waterfront Park at noon Saturday, and CGWA has a swap meet at Luhr Jensen on Sunday.
Have an awesome day today!
