2/9 Mt. Hood sun and snow, Gorge wind and other fun stuff to do.

It’s the 1st annual Winter Pledge Drive! Thank you for using this forecast! It’s free to use, but it’s not free for me to write. I put about an hour a day into creating a (hopefully) accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you use this forecast to pick the…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

It’s the 1st annual Winter Pledge Drive!

Thank you for using this forecast! It’s free to use, but it’s not free for me to write. I put about an hour a day into creating a (hopefully) accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you use this forecast to pick the good days on the hill or on the river, if you find this report saves you gas money or time, please make a donation during pledge drive month! I’m just one gal with other jobs writing this for you! Your generosity keeps this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the pledge drive. Here’s how this works. If I get donations totally $15 or more today, I post a forecast tomorrow. To make this fair, I’ll update the color of the dot midday (a girl’s gotta work, you know.)

Tomorrow’s forecast status: 8:36pm. Thank you, Michelle C.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Good morning,

NOAA’s forecast discussion this morning included the word ‘sensible’ to describe our current weather. Sure, it’s not ideal for everyone: boaters and farmers are whinging about the lack of precipitation, despite the average-depth snowpack. It’s okay, folks. The rain will return. For now, enjoy the sensible, sunny weather.

Speaking of sensible weather, it’s a perfectly sensible day for trail work. If you’re a cyclist or hiker, head over to Syncline today to help WTA with their trail building projects. Head over tomorrow to help CAMBA. Start time both days is 8:30am. Speaking of Syncline, it’s providing proof of spring’s arrival: the Grass Widows are out. So are the ticks, so be sure to check yourself and your pets.

In Gorge weather, expect sunshine this morning and high clouds this afternoon. It’ll be near freezing this morning and around 40 this afternoon. Tomorrow looks partly cloudy, becoming sunny, with temps near freezing early and in the upper 30’s in the afternoon. Monday starts off clear, with clouds by midday. Temps will be in the low thirties early, rising to the mid thirties in the afternoon. Tuesday brings a chance of a few sprinkles in the Gorge, with temps in the mid-thirties early and mid-forties in the afternoon as a warm front pushes in.

Gorge wind will be 26-30 from Hood River to The Dalles today, 10-15mph, becoming light tomorrow, and W 15-18 Monday and Tuesday.

Up on Mt. Hood, the dry weather continues. Today will be clear early, becoming cloudy in the afternoon. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 2000′ all day with N wind at 20-30mph. That N wind can be a pain… models don’t handle it well, so expect strong wind on Mt. Hood.

Tomorrow looks clear. The FAF will be 1500′ early and 500′ around mid-morning, holding all day. Wind will be N 20-30.

Monday looks clear, with some mid-level clouds moving in during the afternoon. The FAF will be 6000′ early, dropping to 3000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be NNW 20 early, swinging to NW 15 in the afternoon.

Tuesday brings a one-day change in the weather, with flurries during the day and heavier snow overnight. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 5500-6000′ during the day, and 3000′ overnight. At this point, I’m thinking it’ll stay all snow, but we’ll have to wait until closer to Tuesday to know for sure. Either way, we’ll see light preicp during the day, followed by .4-.5” water value overnight into Wednesday, for 3-5” of new snow. Wind Tuesday will be W 15 all day, picking up to W 30 overnight.

Looks like dry weather will reestablish over the PNW on Thursday, hanging on through next weekend.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
