Gorge Wind Forecast
In very exciting news for all of you, whatever you windsport is, CGW2 will be hosting a swap meet at Lot 1 next Sunday. Bring all your gear and sell it! And if you’re not a CGW2 member, join. This organization works to build and maintain river access for YOU. Speaking of river access, yes, you’ll be on the river the next few days enjoying the wind.
Saturday looks rather similar to Friday, at least in terms of afternoon showers and wraparound moisture interfering with the consistency of the wind. We’ll start the day with gradients of .11 and .03. Westerlies kick off at 15-18 from Viento to Swell with 5-10 to the west and east with variable wind from Maryhill into the desert. Midday wind rises to 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier with 10-13 or less east of there. We’ll see a brief period of 22-25 early afternoon from Viento The Dalles with 10-13 west of Viento and light/variable wind in the eastern Gorge. After that? Anyone’s guess. Models suggest daytime heating will kick off some showers and potentially shut down the wind. River flow is 228kcfs, river temp is 55F, and high temp forecast is 68F.
An approaching front combines with high pressure off California and low pressure in the desert for a windy day on Sunday. You’ll wake up to 12-15 in the western Gorge and 24-27 from Lyle to Arlington. You can stick around under the cloudy sky for gusty 20-26+/-, or you can head east for more. Find the sunshine, probably from Avery to Threemile, and you’ll find 30-35mph. Heck, you might even find 35-40 late afternoon. Bring the small gear, just in case. High temp: 66F.
Looking at Monday, we see rain in the western Gorge, possibly as far east as The Dalles at times. Westerlies respond accordingly. The western Gorge stays light with 7-10 all day west of The Dalles. Morning wind east of The Dalles will be 18-22. It should rise to 24-28 from The Dalles to Threemile in the afternoon. High temp: 67F.
