6/20 forecast

Good morning!

This report is brought to you this week by Cascade Acupuncture Center, where ancient Chinese medicine achieves better results than popping a continuous dosage of Advil. If you subscribe to the email version of this list by donating $10 or more at the bottom of this page, you’ll have a chance to win an acupuncture treatment package from the cool gals at CAC!

We’re going to see west winds again today as an upper low slides across southern Oregon. At 5am, the Portland to The Dalles gradient was .10, and there was another .06 out east. There are some marine clouds in the western Gorge, so you may have to have to head east for the strongest wind. By midday, Mosier, Rowena and Maryhill will be in the 25-28 range with low twenties further east, and a chance of strong wind at the Hatchery as well.

Westerlies return with a vengeance on Monday as the North Pacific High settles in at the coast and low pressure chills out in the desert. It’s not clear yet if the strongest wind will be at Doug’s or the Hatch on Monday, but it’s going to be blowing in the upper twenties somewhere close to Hood River. Tuesday brings lighter westerlies, but it looks warm and sunny, and that’s going to be a nice break from the coldest, wettest Junuary on record. Yes, I am serious about that, and yes, you were right when you thought June was freezing so far!

Keep an eye out over the next couple of days for Robby, Keith, and a bunch of other Maui rippers. Sounds like they might be bailing on not-windy Pistol for the ever-windy Gorge, arriving this afternoon. I feel like the paparazzi….

If you want to go mountain biking, the trails are in great shape right now, with super tacky dirt. If you’d like company on your ride, Discover Bikes’ shop ride is tonight. That’s a mountain bike ride somewhere close. Meet at Disco at 6:30pm for that ride.

Boaters, the Hood’s just under 4 feet, the Klickitat’s at 2100 cfs, and the White Salmon is just under 3.5 feet, enough water that I got completely schooled yesterday. That’s not to say it wasn’t fun, and I’m glad my boat and I swam some rapids together. We’re much closer now. =)

Have an awesome day today!
