Thank you for using this forecast. I do it as a gift to the community because I want all of you to have more fun in your lives. We’re all busy people, and having an idea of when the snow, wind or dirt will be good allows us to plan ahead. Although I receive occasional support from advertisers, the bulk of my support comes from the generosity of my readers. If you’ve been using this for years, if it’s helpful, brings more fun into your life, or makes you happier in some way, please donate. $12.34 or more gets the forecast delivered to your inbox for a year (I’ll protect your info). Anything over that makes both of us feel appreciative and appreciated, and also pays my grad school bills. Thanks for using the forecast, and thanks for your support. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast.
Although it’s a snowy morning on Mt. Hood, we’ll see a transition to a warmer, wetter form of precip later in the day. Models are hinting at the absolute heaviest of the precip staying just a bit north, and that may impact precip amounts today. Anyway, Expect snow this morning switching to rain this afternoon. The snow level will be 4000′ early and 8000′ or so after noon. We’ll see about 1” of precip between this morning and 4pm, for a few inches of snow and half an inch of rain. We’ll see another 1/2” to 1” of rain overnight. Wind today will be SW 15 early, building to SW 40+ by noon and SW 50+ overnight.
Thursday starts off with light rain, as models show the heaviest precip moving just north of the Columbia River. Looks like the mountain will see some sunshine and perhaps some fog in the afternoon. The snow level will be 9000′ in the morning, dropping to 6500′ by 4pm and 2500′ after midnight. We’ll see about 1/2” rain in the morning followed by an inch or perhaps two inches of snow. Or not. Wind on Thrusday will be SW 50+ all day, dropping to SW 40 overnight.
Friday morning starts off with mid-level clouds, possibly leading to some fog on the mountain. The snow level will be 2000′ for much fo the day, dropping to 500′ after sunset. Snowfall starts up around 1pm, continuing into Saturday morning. Approximately .6-.7” WV falls, for 6-8” of new snow. Wind will be SW 35 for much fo the day, turning to W 45 after 4pm.
Saturday currently looks dry and sunny with the snow level around 5000′. Wind looks to be W 25 Saturday morning and W 10 on Saturday afternoon. Sunday also looks sunny.
Gorge Wind Forecast
East wind at 40-50 all day today drops to E 15-20 after midnight. East wind at 15-20 Thursday morning turns westerly in the western Gorge (maybe to Cascade Locks) midday, but may not reach the central Gorge. Expect light and variable wind Thursday night into Friday.

Random Morning Thoughts
In looking at the forecast yesterday, I realized that I was going to have trouble getting to school on Tuesday and Wednesday if I wasn’t in Portland by Wednesday morning. So I left HR and headed to Portland, where a friend of mine offered her couch.
Being away from home and my cat and sleeping in a strange place is deeply stressful for me. That’s just how I’m wired. I’m not sure my friend realizes this. Over the last 12 hours, she’s done all sorts of things that have lowered my stress level: we baked cookies (and ate them all), watched a video for one of my classes together, and then she made me breakfast this morning. That’s the one that really helped me relax some.
Sometimes we forget that people need to be taken care of when they are going through stress, even if what they’re experiencing may not appear that stressful to us. People are often afraid to ask for what they need when they are under stress, because asking and being told no only adds to the burden. We can do our part by offering what we think might be needed. Not pushing, mind you, but gently offering.
In doing so, we not only make our friends (or neighbors, or whomever) feel seen and cared for, we experience the goodness of being kind to others. That feeling of caring arising from the center of our being will permeate our soul, making us feel calmer, less stressed, and more connected to those around us. Be good to yourself in this storm. Be good to your neighbors. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
The weather looks very snowy today. Expect 6-10” of snow in Hood River before a switch to 1/2” of freezing rain by Thursday morning. Temps will be in the low 30’s all day. East wind. At some point Thursday, the Gorge will likely warm just above freezing, but if not, hey, it’ll happen for sure by Friday afternoon! There’s another 1/2” precip for Hood River Thursday morning, and some, if not all will fall as ice. Temps will be in the low 30’s early, possibly rising to 33 or 34 in the afternoon, although NOAA suggests 44 as a high. There’s rain in the forecast for Friday. In terms of rainbows, there’s a 68% chance Thursday afternoon.
