Gorge Wind Forecast
Yesterday’s clouds stuck around longer than forecast, and the wind therefore stayed farther east than forecast. Today’s clouds should burn off as the day goes on, increasing the likelihood of wind in the Corridor. With offshore high pressure and inland low pressure forecast for the next several days, moderate to strong westerlies continue through the weekend. Reminder: the Spit is closed from noon today through noon Friday for setup and takedown of the fireworks show.
For Wednesday, deep marine clouds are stacked in the west with little fluffy marine clouds past Hood River. While they should burn off today, the morning setup is indicative of best results from Rowena to Rufus. Expect 13-16 at most launches this morning. Exceptions: Roosevelt and Stevenson which are in the low double digits. By early afternoon, the wind will pick up to 24-27 from Viento to Roosevelt. Stevenson may stay cloudy, in which case, the wind will languish in the mid teens. River flow is a measly 111kcfs and river temp is 65 degrees.
The July 4th holiday starts with marine clouds in the west and sunshine in Hood River. The holiday kicks off with westerlies at 16-19 from Viento to Mosier with 7-10 east and west of there. River wind builds quickly, hitting 24-27 by mid-morning from Viento to Mosier and filling in from Stevenson to Avery by mid-afternoon. Rufus peaks at 13-16 and Roosevelt stays in the 5-10 range all day. Watch for a midday lull near Swell as Portland heats up.
Offshore high pressure intensifies on Friday and marine clouds deepen in response to coastal troughiness. Sunrise westerlies will be 15-18 or so from Viento to Mosier. Swell to Mosier should rise to 25-28 by late morning with Stevenson, Rowena, Avery, and Rufus joining in by early afternoon. Roosevelt will be good for those of you looking for less: 18-22 is the forecast there. Models disagree on the exact wind speed this weekend, but they do agree it will be windy. Enjoy!

Road and Mountain Biking
All local trails are snow-free. The only unconfirmed trail I have right now is Huffman Peak. Whoopdee is closed for logging, but Ronnoc trail and the climb out are open. Red Hill Road is supposedly closed for logging. Ride at your own risk. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill!
