Today and tomorrow are looking like Classic Gorge Setup territory with strong high pressure over the Pacific and a heat low in the desert. You can expect a couple days of strong and steady wind for your watersports pleasure. This morning’s 7am gradients were .11 (pdx-dls), .03 (dls-psc) and .41 (eph-dls). In an interesting twist, it’s already way windier than a .11 gradient should provide – the Hatch was at 28 last time I looked. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
So, expect 26-30 all day long with periods of 30+ possible late in the morning near Swell and at Doug’s and Rufus this afternoon. Stevenson will join in the fun at some point with 23-26, and Arlington will slowly build during the day, hitting 26-30 late this afternoon.
Tomorrow starts with a slightly deeper marine layer, for another day of classic Gorge wind. Expect 24-28 right off the bat from Swell to Mosier. The wind will build quickly to 28-32 in that stretch of river, picking up at Doug’s and Rufus to 28-32 by early afternoon. Once again, Stevenson will join in with mid-twenties after the clouds burn off, and Arlington will build slowly during the day for 26-30 late.

See below for details.
Friday sees a trough of low pressure move across BC in addition to the wind turning more northerly. Expect 10-13 in the morning and 13-16 in the afternoon, strongest near Hood River. As of right now, models are showing light and variable wind on the weekend, but given the bigger picture, I think we’re more likely to see 13-16 or so. Guess we’re going to have to wait another day or two before we have a clear picture…
Out on the coast, expect this (north/central/south). Today: 5-10/15-20/30-40, W 3 @ 10. Tomorrow: 10-15/20-25/30-40, W 3 @ 11. Friday: 15-20/25-30/30-40+, NW 6 @ 14.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m feeling really antsy writing this forecast this morning because it’s already ripping, I have a small window of free time, and I just realized I need to service a hot tub today too. So, I’m stressing. About going windsurfing. See the irony? I’m upsetting myself over doing something fun!
And there’s nothing I can do about it right now, so there’s no point in stressing.
That “I can’t change this right now” is a key point. We all do this (unless we’re super awesome enlightened folks), so all we can do is catch ourselves, take a deep breath, acknowledge our frustration, and focus on the task at hand.
There. Task at hand seems to be finished. I’m going windsurfing. Have a great day!
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s another perfect summer day here in the Gorge, if sunshine, wind and low humidity is your thing. Expect temps in the low 60’s early and low 80’s this afternoon. Strong wind. NO rainbows. Tomorrow looks exactly the same as today. We’ll see temps in the low 60’s on Friday morning with low 80’s in the afternoon. A trough of low pressure moving through BC will likely bring some clouds, and the wind will drop to the moderate range. The weekend looks sunny.
