Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Hey hey everyone. Mt. Hood is sitting at 87% of average snowpack, and now it’s time for a break in the accumulation. Don’t you worry – models are hinting at a return to snowy weather after we get through five or six days of warm, sunny weather. The resorts picked up about 10” of new snow during the day on Tuesday after 9” on Monday. A few more inches fall Tuesday night into Wednesday. A few flurries early Wednesday give way to clear sky. The snow level will be 2500′ Tuesday night and 1000′ or so on Wednesday morning. Wind: NW 35 Tuesday evening and NW 20-30 Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will be sunny most of the day with a few high clouds in the evening. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 1000′ early and 2500′ from the afternoon on through the night. Wind: NW 20-30 early, NW 10-20 in the afternoon, and NE 5 overnight.

Thursday’s gonna be a sunny one. The FAF will be 2500′ early, 7500′ in the afternoon, and 10,000′ after midnight. Wind: NE 5 early, E 15 in the afternoon, and E 15 overnight. That’s pretty much the forecast through the weekend: FAF of 10,000′ and relatively light wind. Temps slowly work their way into the mid 40’s or even up to 50. Next chance of snow: Wednesday. How long will it take for the current snow to transform to granular and corn? Maybe Saturday? That’s my best guess. Have fun in the sun!

Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information.
