Gorge Wind Forecast

East wind continues for the next few days as a coastal heat low combine with high pressure inland for offshore gradients. Wednesday started with .06. That’ll give us E 20-25 near Rooster and Stevenson midday with a fade to light east wind after 1pm or so. Thursday maxes out at 20-25 at the usual spots, probably extending all the way to Viento. The wind will back off to 10-15 late afternoon. Friday appears to max out at E 25-30 as a low pressure system approaches offshore.

A marine push associated with that system turns the wind onshore on Saturday. We’ll probably have to wait for the desert to warm up, but models are agreeing on gusty 24-27+ on Saturday afternoon. Models start to disagree on Sunday and diverge wildly by Monday and Tuesday, meaning no forecast is possible for the start of next week.

BONUS: Jones Wednesday: no. Thursday: no. Friday: no. Sauvie’s Wednesday: 13-16. Thursday: 5-10. Friday: no. Coast (north/central/south). Wednesday: 20-25/20-25/X, NW swell 5′ at 8 seconds. Thursday: 15-20/15-20/LTS, NW 6′ @ 9. Friday: S5/S10/S15, NW 4′ @ 8.

Random Morning Thoughts

One theory of mind suggests that there is no central governor; rather, various parts of the mind attempt to compete for dominance. Much like a squeaky wheel, the loudest gets the most attention. Allowing this process to happen automatically reinforces whatever patterns have been hard-wired into the mind.

Take a moment to notice what’s competing for attention right now… (I’ve got these: planning for adventures later this week, the cup of coffee next to me, blueberry pies, connecting with my friend Joaquin later today, the fact that I feel relaxed right now, sleepiness, my hurting knee, and the beautiful view in front of me.) My mind really wants to focus on something worrisome, but I’m actively working to override that tendency.

You can change the mind’s automatic attention patterns by starting to focus on things that you deem worthy of attention. For example, we often focus on painful or worrisome things rather than pleasantries. In my case, I could choose to fully experience contentment or the alpenglow on Adams while all those other things murmur in the background.

You too can do this. Focusing attention requires present-moment awareness, which is a skill that requires practice. But if you do this often, your awareness and presence will become more constant, and your mind will learn to be louder about more enjoyable things. May you be content. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

Sunny Wednesday! Temps will be in the low 40’s early and 40 degrees warmer later for low 80’s. East wind. No rainbows. Same Thursday. Same Friday plus some high clouds. Saturday looks partly cloudy and Sunday looks showery. Models completely disagree after that.

Road and Mountain Biking

BROWN POW. Get some while it’s here! Whoopdee and Hospital Hill and Underwood have reopened. Post Canyon motorized use has also reopened. I’m guessing the 44 Road trails are also experiencing brown pow. Trails on the Washington side will also be in epic shape – they got even more rain!

Upcoming Events

Today’s Wednesday, and you’ve got several indoor activities if the sunshine and 80 degree temps aren’t to your liking. There’s by-donation yoga at the fish food bank at 10, meditation at noon at Trnity Body Arts, and the women’s Post n’ Pinot bike ride at Dirty Fingers at 5:30. If you like these shop rides, jump on them, because they’re coming to an end for the season due to earlier sunsets. Tonights is at 6:58pm.

Tomorrow’s the first day of the Ranch Trail Challenge in Goldendale – that runs through Sunday at BC Mello Arena. The CGWA windsurfing awards are tomorrow night from 6 to 8 at the Skylight Theatre.
