Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Spring skiing is what we’ve got with the exception of a bit of light rain sometime in the Saturday-Sunday time period. Looking deeper into the future, models keep the weather dry probably through the following weekend. Overnight temps should be cool enough, and the sky should be clear enough for radiational cooling to refreeze the snow each day and give us excellent corn. Let’s dive in…
Wednesday will be sunny all day. The snow froze last night, so you’ll have corn snow today. The free air freezing level will be 2500′ in the morning and 4000′ from the afternoon on through the night. Wind: NE 10 in the morning, E 5 in the afternoon, and E 20 overnight. Thursday will also be sunny all day. The freezing level will be 4000′ in the morning, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ after midnight. Wind: E 20 in the morning, E 15 in the afternoon, and E 30 overnight.
Friday looks quite windy in the morning, enough to maybe cause some brief troubles at T-Line where easterlies tend to be more disruptive. The freezing level will be 4000′ in the morning, 5500′ in the afternoon, and 9000′ after midnight. Wind: E 30 in the morning, E 20 in the afternoon, and variable to 15 overnight. Saturday starts clear and warm and adds some light rain in the afternoon. That probably switches to light flurries overnight as the freezing level drops to 1500′ by Sunday morning.
All-in-all, we’re looking at an excellent stretch of corn snow. The snow should refreeze each night. Get it while you can!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! We’re headed into a three day stretch of east wind. The best chance to get on the river is going to be Friday. It’s worth noting that the wind won’t just be confined to the river; it’ll be blowing in the hills too, and that tends to make the river speeds underperform. Also of note: the river flow this morning spiked to 253kcfs. Keep that in mind when you’re choosing where to go and what to do. Remember that the Maryhill stretch has too much current for decent swell past 300kcfs. One last tip: if you’re on back-and-forth gear (wing, kite, windsurfer), it’s best not to cross downwind within 10-20 feet of the SUP foilers. Make a small adjustment and cut upwind of them for safety.
Okay, on to the wind! Wednesday starts light and variable with gradients of 30.42/30.38/30.35. That’s west gradient to start, but it’ll die off. Expect calm wind midday all through the Gorge. Afternoon wind picks up to E 10-15 at Stevenson and Iwash (Rooster) Rock. River flow in the last 24 hours was 151-253kcfs, river temp is 50.54F. The Dalles gauge is at 77.83, and Stevenson is at 75.54.
Thursday starts with E 20-25 at Iwash and 15-20 at Stevenson. The wind holds through midday and then drops to 10-15. The wind also picks up to E 10-15 all the way from Viento to Arlington in the afternoon. High temp: 65F under mostly clear sky. Stronger inland high pressure on Friday results in stronger easterlies. Iwash starts at 30-40 and holds through early afternoon before dropping to 25 or so. Stevenson starts at 20-25, rises to 30ish, and eventually drops too. Viento will be 20ish. East of Viento, the wind rises to E 10-15 in the afternoon. Next chance for westerlies is Saturday afternoon as a front swings through. Expect it to be short-lived and very gusty. There’s another chance for moderate westerlies on Sunday. Have fun, and enjoy the sunshine and dry weather over the next few days!

Temps start in the mid 30s and rise to the mid 60s. Light east wind early. Moderate easterlies later. No rainbows. Friday will be clear. Temps start near 40 and rise to the upper 60s. Moderate easterlies. No rainbows.

The White Salmon – Bingen community-wide yard sale is April 19th and 20th.. The HRATS fundraiser is 4/20 at the Ruins. 4/20 is also a cleanup day at Jetty Island.
Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Cows are out on Hospital Hill. NO DOGS. That means you, all of you, even your dog that’s [insert adjective]. No dogs. Do not risk access for everyone. No parking at the corral. HRATS have a fundraiser on 4/20. Raffle tickets are on sale now. Buy some and support your trails organization. Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trail-building season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
