Mt. Hood Forecast
Sunshine sticks around for the next 72 hours on the mountain. Eventually, the hardpack will turn to corn snow. Keep an eye out for Superbowl hiking at Meadows if that’s your thing. Otherwise, wax for warm snow as slope-side temps climb well above freezing. Next chance of snow is Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, but it’s unclear how much snowfall we may get.
For Wednesday, you’ll have sunshine on the slopes all day long. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 8000′ in the morning and 10,000′ from afternoon on through the night. No precip. Wind: light and variable in the morning, SW 5-10 in the afternoon, and WSW 10-20 overnight.
Thursday will be clear and sunny. The FAF will be 10,000′ in the morning and will slowly fall to 6000′ after midnight. No precip. Wind: WSW 10-20 in the morning, SW 15-30 in the afternoon, and SW 5-15 overnight. Friday also looks sunny. The FAF will be 6000-6500′ during the day and 5000′ after midnight. Wind: SW 5-15 early, SW 15-30 in the afternoon, and W 15 overnight.
High clouds move in and out on Saturday with the freezing level around 6500′. Light wind. Sunshine Sunday morning gives way to clouds in the early afternoon and snow in the evening. Snow totals are completely unclear at this point. Looking at next week, most members of the model ensembles suggest showery weather with light snowfall accumulations for at least a few days. Have fun!
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Easterlies today. Westerlies tomorrow and Thursday! Expect 30-35 this morning near Rooster with 15-20 near Viento and Stevenson. Those latter two locations will probably bump up to 20-25 mid-morning before fading to 10-15 in the afternoon. The rest of the Gorge picks up to E 5 in the afternoon. River flow is 116kcfs, river temp is 45F, and high temp forecast is 65F. Thursday sees a weak front approach from the NW. That gives us gusty westerlies after a pre-dawn light easterly start. The wind picks up to gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to Mosier around dawn and rises to 20-24 from Stevenson to Mosier mid-morning. As this system moves in, the western Gorge, Stevenson to Mosier, drops to gusty 13-18. East of there, from Rowena to Arlington, you’ll find gusty 22-25. High temp: 65F. Friday starts with W 11-14 from Viento to Swell, perhaps to Mosier. The wind falls to W 7-10 midday and rises to 17-20 from Stevenson to The Dalles in the afternoon. High temp: 63F. Sunshine all three days!
Coast, Jones, Sauvie’s
On vacation until the end of snowsports season. Will return in April or May.

Cycling
Cows are out on Hospital Hill. No parking at the corral. No dogs on the trails. No exceptions. Please respect the wishes of the landowners – they let us use their land, and in return, we respect their rules! Post Canyon: GP is still CLOSED. Those of you riding it are doing significant damage to freshly-shaped and not-yet-compacted trail. All that work you’re destroying is being done by about three volunteers. STOP. They anticipate they’ll be able to reopen the trail in the next couple of weeks, but if you keep riding it, it’s going to take longer. Other news: Mountain View Cycles women’s ride starts up this Thursday. Bottom of Post at 5:30pm. Dirty Fingers has Sunday gravel rides.
