Thursday looks like W 5-10 in the morning with W 15-18 in the afternoon from Stevenosn to The Dalles. Friday starts off light and variable and picks up to widespread E 10-15 in the afternoon. Gorge wind forecast, continued…

Models suggest a big cooldown on Saturday and Sunday, leading to stronger westerlies. As of right now, Saturday looks like gusty 26-30 and Sunday looks like steadier 30-40. This is a long ways out to be making this prediction, but I’m definitely keeping my eye on it and clearing my Sunday.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

I think maybe it’s time to lay off with the Mt. Hood snow forecast for the summer. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to snow until next winter, does it?

Random Morning Thoughts

I know I’ve talked about the phrase “people don’t change” a few times, but I want to speak about a small piece of that for a couple sentences this morning before I hop on my bicycle and ride to school (oh happy me!). People, of course, do change over time. And they also change over domains. Remember this when you’re interacting with someone – behaviors can be situational.

For example, someone who is uncomfortable in crowded or noisy places might seem a bit weird to you in those situations. If you were to run into that person at a quiet dinner party or on a secluded hike, you might experience them in a different way. They’re probably experiencing themselves in a different way in each of those situations.

It’s a brief point, but a noteworthy one – we tend to make a judgment about someone and assume that our concept of them is correct. We look for information to confirm that concept (just as we look for news that confirms our political/cultural beliefs). But people do change across situations. Try and keep your mind open to that, and leave space in your concept of other people for their differences across domains. Know why? Because you and everyone else is awesome. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

First off, HRC (not Hillary, Hood River County) did some herbicide application in Post yesterday. Seven Streams and Kleeway are closed until 9am tomorrow. So go road biking – today looks freakin’ awesome for road biking! Zero wind, temps near 80. Whatcha waiting for? Tomorrow? On the trails, it’s dusty. Up on the 44 Road, 8 Mile and Knebal have been bucked, but need people to pull the logs off the trail. Falls Creek has 15-20 trees and patchy snow between the Horse Camp and the Falls. Get the complete list of open trails here. Hood River County has a work party on the 160 trail on Saturday. Meet at Binn’s Hill Staging Area at 9am.

Upcoming Events

Today’s events include community meditation at Flow Yoga at 8:15 and community yoga at the Heartgate Sanctuary in Oak Grove at 8:30. There’s ping pong at the Hood River Armory tonight at 5pm and the women’s Post n’ Pinot mountain bike ride at Dirty Fingers at 5:30. Coming up tomorrow, there’s pickleball at 5:15 at May Street Elementary, the race-pace Post n’ Pint mountain bike ride at Dirty Fingers at 5:30, Tai Chi at Our Savior Church in Bingen at 6:30 and Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Dog River Super D mountain bike race takes place on the Dog River trail on Sunday, with practice runs on Saturday. There’s sailboat racing in Cascade Locks on Saturday. There’s a work party on Post Canyon’s 160 trail Saturday, and it’s the Stevenson to Carson Ridge Run. Coming up Saturday night, OMSI has a stargazing party at Rooster Rock starting at dusk.

Have an awesome day today!
